Allure Bridals Wedding Dress Alterations in Greater London
This Allure Bridals A1256 gown came to my Sutton studio for specialist Allure Bridals wedding dress alterations. Crafted in Mikado and lace, it features a fitted sheath silhouette, a sweetheart neckline, detachable off-the-shoulder lace sleeves and a beautiful row of covered buttons running down the back. The detachable lace sleeves allow the gown to be worn in two different ways: with the sleeves for a romantic look, or without them for a simpler, more streamlined style.
For this bride, the dress needed more than a simple adjustment. The fit had to be refined and carefully contoured, while the neckline required additional support. I also added delicate beaded straps, shortened the hem and created a bustle for the train.
The aim was to make the gown feel secure and comfortable while preserving the clean lines and romantic detailing of the original Allure design.

Reshaping and contouring the fitted silhouette
The bride purchased her Allure Bridals A1256 gown from Outlet by Aurora, who kindly recommended my bridal alterations studio in Sutton. Boutique referrals are always greatly appreciated, and I was delighted to help refine the fit while preserving the original character of this beautiful gown.
A sheath wedding dress relies on a precise fit. Even a small amount of excess fabric can interrupt the smooth line of the gown, particularly through the bodice, waist and hips.
I took the dress in and carefully contoured it to follow the bride’s natural shape. This was carried out gradually during the fittings so that the gown looked beautifully fitted without becoming restrictive.
The finished fit created a much cleaner silhouette while allowing the bride to sit, walk and move comfortably. The covered buttons and seam lines at the back also needed to remain straight and balanced after the dress was reshaped.
Adding bust support and refining the neckline
The sweetheart neckline and lace cup detail are key features of the Allure Bridals A1256. However, the bodice needed additional internal bust support to give the bride the security and shape she wanted.
Rather than changing the character of the neckline, I worked from inside the gown to improve its structure and carefully contoured the bust area. This helped the lace cups sit more neatly and created a supported, balanced shape beneath the softly draped Mikado fabric.
Bust alterations are not simply about adding cups. The position of the cups, the internal structure of the bodice and the fit around the bride’s body must all work together. The result should look natural from the outside and feel secure throughout the wedding day.
Custom beaded straps for additional security
I added slim beaded straps to the gown as a bespoke alteration. They provided an extra level of security while remaining delicate enough to complement the lace neckline.
It was important that the new straps looked as though they belonged to the dress. Their fine beaded finish picked up the subtle detail of the lace without competing with it, and their placement helped support the bodice while keeping the neckline open and elegant.
The original detachable lace sleeves could still be worn off the shoulder, allowing the bride to enjoy their romantic effect alongside the additional support of the new straps.
Shortening and Fitting the Detachable Lace Sleeves
One of the loveliest features of the A1256 is its detachable long lace sleeves. They soften the clean Mikado gown and create a romantic off-the-shoulder look, while the dress can also be worn without them for a simpler strapless appearance.
The detachable lace sleeves were shortened and carefully reshaped to create a closer, more flattering fit along the bride’s arms. The lace was precisely pinned and adjusted while preserving its beautiful floral detailing and buttoned cuffs, ensuring the finished sleeves felt comfortable and looked as though they had always been designed for the gown.
When fitting a gown with detachable sleeves, the bodice must remain secure in both versions. The newly added beaded straps were intentionally subtle, so they worked beautifully whether the bride wore the lace sleeves or allowed the straps to become part of the overall look.

The hem was shortened to the correct length for the bride’s wedding shoes. With a fitted dress that flares towards the floor, the hem must be balanced all the way around so that the gown falls evenly when the bride is standing and moving.
The length was checked during the fitting while the bride wore her chosen shoes. Shortening the hem allowed her to walk comfortably without losing the elegant shape of the skirt.
Allure Bridals Wedding Dress Alterations | Adding a bustle to the train
The A1256 has a graceful train finished with a line of covered buttons. It looks beautiful for the ceremony and photographs, but the bride also needed a practical way to lift it later in the day.
I added a bustle that gathered and supported the train while respecting the gown’s shape and button detailing. A well-positioned bustle should feel secure, distribute the fabric evenly and allow the bride to move more freely during the reception.
At the final fitting, the bustle can also be demonstrated to the person who will help fasten it on the wedding day.

The finished alterations included:
- Taking in and contouring the dress for a closer, smoother fit
- Reshaping the bust area and adding internal support
- Adding delicate beaded straps
- Shortening and reshaping the detachable lace sleeves for a closer, more comfortable fit
- Shortening the hem to the bride’s shoes
- Adding a bustle to lift the train
Every alteration was planned to enhance the original Allure Bridals design rather than overpower it. The result was a gown that retained its romantic lace, softly draped bodice and elegant Mikado silhouette, but felt far more secure and personal to the bride.
