Every wedding dress tells a story, but some transformations require far more than simply adjusting a hem or taking in the seams. Melanie travelled from Purley to my private bridal alterations studio in Sutton, Surrey, with her beautiful Allure Bridal gown. The dress required extensive couture alterations, including intricate lace reconstruction, precision fitting and bespoke finishing to ensure it looked as though it had been made especially for her.
The result was a wedding dress that retained every detail of the original design while fitting perfectly and allowing complete confidence throughout her beautiful Wiltshire wedding.

Allure Bridal gowns are renowned for their romantic silhouettes, luxurious fabrics and beautifully detailed lace.
Working on detailed lace gowns requires a couture approach, particularly when alterations affect decorative lace motifs that flow continuously across seams and panels.
Rather than simply altering the garment, each stage must respect the original design so the finished dress appears untouched.
For Melanie’s gown, preserving the integrity of the lace was every bit as important as achieving the perfect fit.
Individually Removing and Reapplying Every Lace Motif
One of the most technically demanding aspects of this alteration involved the floral lace.
To reshape the bodice and silhouette correctly, numerous lace appliqués first had to be carefully removed before the structural alterations could begin.
Once the gown had been expertly contoured to Melanie’s figure, every lace motif was individually repositioned and hand sewn back into place, allowing the lace pattern to flow naturally across every seam.
This painstaking couture process is often invisible when completed well—and that’s exactly how it should be.
The finished gown looked as though it had never been altered.

Like many brides, Melanie wanted to enjoy every part of her wedding day—from walking down the aisle to celebrating with family and friends long into the evening.
To make this possible, I created a bespoke bustle together with a discreet wrist strap, allowing the train to be managed beautifully throughout the day.
The front hem was also carefully adjusted to achieve the perfect balance between elegance and practicality.

From Purley to a Beautiful Wiltshire Wedding
After months of careful fittings, Melanie wore her beautifully transformed Allure Bridal gown at her Wiltshire wedding.
Seeing the dress come to life on the wedding day is always one of the most rewarding moments of the bridal alterations process.
From the excitement of getting ready, to the ceremony, confetti photographs, first dance and evening celebrations, the gown remained elegant, comfortable and effortless throughout the entire day.

“Zen altered my bridal gown which was no small job as it was covered in lace that needed to be individually removed and reattached… she did an incredible job of this intricate task (you’d never tell).
Zen was also invaluable in leveraging her expertise to create me a bustle, wrist strap and just the right length of dress at the front to pull off a lot of salsa cubana, rueda and Greek traditional dancing on the day without tripping over.
She helped me finalise my hair, agreeing that actually no accessories really was more me.
On a personal note Zen was so supportive both in the lead up and after… one example being on one of my last fittings when she handed me a chocolate bar as I left because I didn’t seem my normal self. That really picked me up—not just through sugar, but through feeling seen.”
