Eva Lendel Bridal Alterations | A Couture Sample Wedding Dress Transformation
Sarah came to my Surrey studio from Purley after being recommended through Love Bridal Crystal Palace Boutique for alterations on her beautiful Eva Lendel Sabrina wedding dress, which she had purchased as a sample gown.
Like many brides purchasing sample dresses, she instantly fell in love with the design, intricate embellishment and softness of the silhouette, but knew the fit would require careful refinement to properly balance the bodice, waist and overall proportions of the gown.

Sarah purchased the Eva Lendel Sabrina as a sample wedding dress after falling in love with its illusion detailing, soft layered silhouette and intricate couture-inspired embellishment.

Eva Lendel Bridal Alterations | Altering A Heavily Beaded Sample Wedding Dress
One of the more intricate parts of Sarah’s bridal alterations involved the heavily embroidered appliqué work across the bodice and side seams. Because the construction seams were hidden beneath detailed embellishment, sections of the appliqué had to be carefully unpicked by hand before the bodice could be properly reshaped and refined.
The illusion sleeves also required careful adjustment throughout their full length to improve the fit through the arms while maintaining the softness and delicacy of the original design. With heavily embellished illusion sleeves, every refinement has to be balanced carefully so the mesh remains comfortable and natural in movement without distorting the embroidery or bead placement.
Once the structural alterations were completed, the embroidered appliqué and beadwork were meticulously repositioned and reattached so the gown retained its original seamless appearance.
This level of bridal alteration work is particularly important with sample gowns, where the dress has often been tried on multiple times before purchase and usually requires more detailed fitting adjustments to restore balance and precision through the body.
The gown was gradually refined through the bodice, waist and proportions while carefully preserving the softness and movement of the original Eva Lendel design.
Navigating Bridal Alterations As A Bride
Like many brides, Sarah had quickly discovered that bridal alterations — particularly for heavily embellished gowns — can feel slightly overwhelming at first, especially when pricing structures and fitting approaches vary so much from place to place.
Rather than rushing immediately into major alterations, we began with a prefitting consultation followed by a series of final fittings where the dress was gradually refined to ensure the silhouette felt secure, comfortable and natural to wear.
At one stage, Sarah was unsure whether the waist required slightly more ease, and having the flexibility to return for another fitting allowed us to reassess the gown carefully rather than forcing rushed decisions.
