Justin Alexander Florita Wedding Dress Alterations

Finding the perfect wedding dress is only the beginning. Achieving a flawless fit requires experience, technical precision and an understanding of how every alteration affects the overall design. At my private couture bridal alterations studio near Tooting, I specialise in transforming wedding dresses so they fit beautifully while preserving the designer’s original vision. Every alteration is individually planned to enhance both comfort and silhouette, whether a gown requires subtle refinement or extensive structural reshaping.

This recent Justin Alexander Florita wedding dress perfectly demonstrates why couture bridal alterations are about far more than simply taking a dress in.

Before the dress was altered

This beautiful Justin Alexander Florita gown featured a delicately embellished illusion bodice, soft A-line skirt, dramatic front split and an elegant sparkling cathedral-length train.

Although the dress was already beautiful, it required significant structural alterations to achieve the precise fit my bride wanted for her wedding day.

The alterations included:

  • Taking the dress in 8cm through the centre back zip
  • Reshaping the bodice for a closer couture fit
  • Reducing the bust cups
  • Adding additional bust support for comfort and security
  • Designing and creating bespoke hand-beaded straps to perfectly complement the original embellishment
  • Creating a discreet bustle allowing the train to be lifted for dancing
  • Full couture steam pressing before collection

Every alteration was carried out whilst carefully preserving the original beadwork, illusion construction and delicate floral embroidery.

One of the greatest compliments a bridal seamstress can receive is when the alterations cannot be seen.

Following her wedding, my lovely bride Mellisa messaged me saying:

“Side profile looks like zero altering took place!”

That sentence perfectly captures the aim of couture bridal alterations.

Although the bodice had been reduced by 8cm, the finished gown looked exactly as Justin Alexander intended. The proportions remained balanced, the seams appeared untouched and the silhouette looked completely natural.

Behind the scenes, however, the internal structure had been carefully re-engineered to achieve a bespoke fit.

Why I Advised Keeping the Cathedral Train

Reshaped bodice with smaller bust cups and added support justin Alexander Bridal alterations for a tooting bride.

During one fitting, my bride mentioned that she was considering shortening the dress by removing the train completely.

Technically this was possible.

However, after studying the design of the Justin Alexander Florita gown, I explained that removing the train would fundamentally change the balance of the dress.

The sparkle flowing through the train echoed the embellishment across the bodice and beautifully balanced the dramatic front split. Removing it would have altered the proportions that make this design so elegant.

Instead, I recommended creating a professionally engineered bustle.

This allowed my bride to enjoy the full beauty of the train during the ceremony before lifting it effortlessly for the evening reception.

After the wedding she sent another message saying:

“Bustle worked perfectly!”

Sometimes the most valuable advice a bridal alterations specialist can give is knowing which features should remain exactly as the designer intended.

Bridal Alterations Tooting | Hand-Beaded Straps to Match the Original Design

Rather than using standard bridal straps, I created bespoke hand-beaded straps that blended seamlessly into the original embellishment.

Every bead and crystal was selected to complement the existing embroidery, ensuring the straps appeared as though they had always been part of the dress.

Combined with the reshaped bodice and additional bust support, the finished gown felt secure, comfortable and beautifully balanced throughout the day.

Precision Bridal Alterations for Tooting Brides

Many brides travel from Tooting to my Surrey studio because they are looking for specialist bridal alterations rather than standard clothing alterations.

Designer gowns often require complex structural work beneath the surface, particularly when the fit needs to be significantly improved whilst preserving delicate fabrics, beadwork and embroidery.

Whether your dress requires taking in, bust support, a bustle, strap alterations or complete couture reshaping, every alteration is carried out with meticulous attention to detail so the finished gown looks as though it was made exclusively for you.

Final Couture Steam Press & Collection

Bridal Alterations Tooting, Bride’s altered Justin Alexander Florita wedding dress ready for collection after final steam press.

Before collection, the Justin Alexander Florita gown received a meticulous couture steam press to ensure every layer of soft tulle, every fold of the cathedral-length train and every delicate embellishment fell beautifully. Following the structural alterations, bespoke beaded straps and bustle construction, the dress was carefully finished so it looked immaculate from every angle. When my Tooting bride collected her gown, it was fully prepared to wear, with the silhouette perfectly balanced and every detail ready for her wedding day. The finished result looked as though it had been made exclusively for her, with no visible sign that extensive couture alterations had taken place
