Allure Bridal Wedding Dress Alterations – Size 14 to 6/8 for a Wallington Bride

Allure Bridal Alterations for a Wallington bride Reduced size 14 to an 8-6 size to fit bride like a glove on her wedding day.

When this bride travelled from Wallington to my private bridal alterations studio in Sutton, she brought a beautiful Allure Bridal Caroline wedding dress purchased from Outlet by Aurora. She had found the gown she loved, but it was approximately a bridal size 14 and needed extensive alterations to fit her size 6/8 figure.

With its structured bodice, sleek fitted skirt and covered buttons extending down the back towards the train, Caroline’s beauty lies in its shape and proportions. My task was to preserve those details while carefully reshaping the gown around my bride.

Alongside the substantial take-in, I added bust cups, created a ballroom bustle and professionally steamed the dress ready for her wedding.

Allure Bridal Alterations Wallington | Outlet Dress Size 14 to 6/8

Allure Bridal Alterations for a Wallington bride bought her dress from the outlet by Aurora who recommended me to her.

Finding a wedding dress in an outlet can mean falling in love with a gown that is considerably larger than you need. That was the starting point for this transformation.

The fitting photographs show the excess fabric pinned through the body, revealing how much the dress needed to change. The alteration required careful attention to the relationship between the bodice, waist and hips, so that the finished gown followed the bride’s proportions smoothly.

A reduction of this scale involves more than making the dress narrower. As the fit changes, the neckline, bust shaping and skirt must continue to work together. Throughout the fittings, I paid close attention to that balance, preserving the fitted silhouette while bringing the gown closer to her figure.

Her Caroline dress was purchased sleeveless and remained sleeveless throughout the alterations.

The structured, corset-inspired bodice is one of Caroline’s most distinctive features. Its defined bust and clean lines make the upper fit particularly important.

I carefully reshaped the bodice as part of the overall size reduction and added bust cups for support and shaping. This helped the upper part of the dress sit more comfortably against the bride’s figure and brought the bust into proportion with the altered waist and skirt.

The aim was a secure, balanced fit that retained the character of the original gown. In the finished wedding photographs, the bodice looks beautifully proportioned to her, with a clean neckline and a smooth transition through the waist.

The long line of fabric-covered buttons gives the back of this gown an elegant focal point. Keeping that detail centred and balanced was an important part of the alteration.

As I reduced the dress, I worked carefully around the back shaping so that the gown followed the bride’s waist and hips while retaining its original design.

The fitting and wedding photographs tell this part of the story particularly well: the generous amount of pinned fabric at the beginning gives way to a smooth, fitted back, with the buttons continuing towards the train.

Creating a Ballroom Bustle

For the train, I created a ballroom bustle, allowing it to be secured underneath the skirt for the reception.

This suited the gown’s sleek appearance and gave the bride a practical way to manage her train later in the day. She could enjoy its full length for the ceremony and photographs, then bustle it for walking, mingling and dancing.

The bustle i made to suit the look was a Three point ballroom bustle

A bustle is a small part of the overall alteration story, but it can make a considerable difference to how comfortably a bride enjoys her dress beyond the ceremony.

Professionally Steamed for the Wedding

Once the alterations were complete, I professionally steamed the gown ready for the wedding.

With a smooth, minimally embellished dress like Caroline, the finish of the fabric is especially visible. Careful steaming helped release creases and allowed the skirt and train to fall beautifully.

The dress left my Sutton studio fitted to the bride, with added bust support, a ballroom bustle and its final wedding-day preparation complete.

From the Fitting Room to the Wedding Day

Seeing the wedding photographs is always a lovely moment. During fittings, my attention is on the details: how the bodice sits, how the fabric follows the body and whether the bride feels comfortable moving in her dress.

In the finished photographs, those individual adjustments become part of the whole. The structured bodice, fitted silhouette and flowing train look beautifully at home on her.

For me, that is the most rewarding outcome of a substantial alteration: seeing a bride comfortable and happy in the dress she chose.

The Bride’s Five-Star Review

After her wedding, my bride kindly left this five-star Google review:

“Zen!! thank you so much for your talent with doing my dress I had so many compliments and felt so comfortable all day.

I went to zen with a dress from an outlet that was around a size 14 she took it in perfectly and down to a size 6/8. She did amazing and is so kind.

Thanks again xx”

Her words “felt so comfortable all day” mean so much to me. A beautifully fitted wedding dress should allow the bride to move, sit, hug her guests and enjoy her celebrations.

Knowing she felt comfortable throughout the day made this transformation especially satisfying.

This Caroline gown is a lovely example of the possibilities of carefully considered bridal alterations. An outlet dress that began at approximately size 14 was reshaped to fit a size 6/8 bride, while preserving the details she loved.

Every gown needs an individual assessment, particularly when a substantial size reduction is involved. The construction, proportions and fit all help determine what can be achieved.
