Hand Embroidery & Crystal Embellishment in Sutton, Surrey | Couture Detail Work

Hand embroidery and crystal embellishment are among the most intricate aspects of couture dressmaking, requiring precision, patience and a deep understanding of garment construction. For this bespoke embroidery I used bugal beads, seed beads, Swarovski Crystal beads and elements in so many different shapes. This was to match the bodice of the clients dress.
Working from my studio in Sutton, Surrey, I incorporate hand-finished embroidery and embellishment into bespoke garments and complex bridal alterations, creating refined, couture-level finishes for clients across London and surrounding areas.
✦ The Art of Hand Embroidery in Couture

Hand embroidery is not simply decorative — it is structural, visual and tactile.
Each bead, crystal or sequin is placed with intention, ensuring balance, movement and light reflection across the garment.
Working on delicate fabrics such as silk tulle and fine lace requires a controlled, careful approach to avoid distortion while maintaining the fluidity of the design.
✦ Precision & Placement
Every element is individually applied by hand, allowing for complete control over spacing, density and flow.
This level of detail is essential when working on couture garments, where embroidery often follows complex curves, mirrored patterns or sculpted silhouettes. For this piece I had to make two sleeves so they were mirror reflection of each other to maintain the symmetry of the dress design.
The result is a finish that feels considered, balanced and refined.
✦ Working With Existing Embellishment
In bridal alterations and bespoke dressmaking, it is often necessary to remove and reapply existing embroidery or beadwork.
This process involves:
- carefully unpicking embellishment
- preserving original materials
- reconstructing the design after structural changes
This is particularly important when shortening gowns, adjusting bodices or reshaping silhouettes, ensuring the original design is maintained while achieving a flawless fit.
✦ A Slow, Considered Couture Process
Hand embroidery is intentionally slow.
Each section is built gradually, ensuring durability while achieving a refined, couture finish.
This level of craftsmanship gives the garment depth, texture and individuality — qualities that define true couture work. This piece took about a month of working on the sleeves and neckline and bodice of the dress. Explore the bespoke dressmaking process
