Ricca Sposa Bridal Alterations | Couture Wedding Dress Alterations Specialist

Bride wearing her altered Ricca Sposa Como wedding dress at Château Fengari in France

When my lovely bride was recommended to me by one of my previous clients, she travelled from Cheam to my Sutton studio with her stunning Ricca Sposa Como Bridal Alterations. She had already fallen in love with the dress but wanted it to fit flawlessly, feel completely secure throughout the day and offer two different looks from one gown. Her destination wedding at the beautiful Château Fengari in France deserved nothing less.

A Couture Bridal Alterations Journey for a Destination Wedding in France

One of the greatest compliments I can receive is when a previous client entrusts me with another important wedding. Emma was recommended to me by my regular client, Chi, whose bridesmaid dress I also altered for this beautiful celebration at Château Fengari, France. After experiencing my work firsthand, Chi recommended me to Emma, and it was an absolute pleasure to prepare her stunning Ricca Sposa Como gown for such a memorable destination wedding.

Emma had chosen the breathtaking Ricca Sposa Como gown for her wedding at Château Fengari in France, a spectacular château near Bordeaux. Like many couture gowns, although beautifully made, the dress still required careful alterations to achieve a flawless bespoke fit.

The Como is a heavily embellished fitted gown featuring intricate lace appliqué, delicate beadwork, illusion corsetry and detachable bardot sleeves. Every alteration had to preserve the original design while making the dress feel as though it had been created especially for her.

Ricca Sposa Bridal Alterations | Creating a Perfectly Sculpted Fit

The bodice required precise reshaping from the bust down to the waist to follow my bride’s proportions perfectly.

I carefully reduced the bust and reshaped the gown through the bodice to create a beautifully contoured silhouette while maintaining complete balance throughout the lace design.

Because this gown features an illusion corset construction beneath heavily embellished lace, the alterations involved far more than simply taking in seams. The internal structure had to be carefully dismantled, reshaped and rebuilt before every layer was meticulously restored.

The result was a gown that looked untouched—but fitted as though it had been made exclusively for her.

Ricca Sposa Bridal Alterations | Expert Cup Reduction for Superior Support

One of the most important alterations was reducing the built-in cups.

Factory cups are produced to standard sizes and often leave excess volume that prevents the bodice from sitting correctly.

I removed the original cup construction, reshaped the internal support and installed smaller cups that followed my bride’s natural proportions.

Although this alteration is completely invisible once finished, it dramatically improves comfort, support and confidence throughout the wedding day.

The internal construction photographs show just how much work goes into an alteration that no one ever sees.

Ricca Sposa Bridal Alterations | Two Looks in One Wedding Dress

One feature my bride particularly loved was having two different bridal looks.

I created detachable bardot sleeves that could be worn in two different positions, allowing her to change the appearance of the neckline throughout the celebrations while keeping the gown beautifully secure.

This gives brides wonderful versatility without compromising the original design.

Three Hidden American Bustles

For an elegant fitted gown with a long lace train, a bustle needs to be both secure and virtually invisible.

I created a three-point American bustle using carefully positioned hidden buttons and ribbon loops concealed beneath the lace.

This system lifts the train evenly for dancing while maintaining the elegant lines of the gown and preventing unnecessary strain on the lace.

Every bustle point was individually tested to ensure it distributed the weight correctly.

A Complex Multi-Layer Lace Hem

Although the gown appears delicate, shortening it required significant precision.

The alterations included:

  • Outer lace hem
  • Crinoline hem
  • Five additional internal layers

Each layer had to be individually measured, balanced and finished so that the gown maintained its original proportions and movement.

With heavily embellished lace there is no room for error—every millimetre matters.

Hand Sewing Every Detail Back Into Place

Many couture alterations involve removing lace motifs and beadwork before structural changes can be completed.

After reshaping the bodice, every section of lace and embellishment was carefully restored by hand so the alterations became completely invisible.

Professionally Steamed and Prepared for France

Before collection, the entire gown underwent a full couture steam pressing.

Every layer was individually steamed, the lace carefully relaxed, and the completed dress inspected from every angle before being professionally packaged for its journey to France.

Destination weddings place additional demands on bridal gowns, so preparing the dress correctly for travel is just as important as the alterations themselves.

A Beautiful Wedding at Château Fengari

Seeing the professional photographs from Château Fengari was incredibly rewarding.

From the emotional ceremony to the relaxed portraits in the château gardens, the gown fitted beautifully from every angle.

The sculpted bodice remained perfectly secure, the detachable sleeves framed the neckline elegantly and the lace train flowed effortlessly throughout the celebrations before lifting beautifully for the evening thanks to the hidden bustle.

It was wonderful to see another bride enjoying her day with complete confidence, knowing she never had to think about her dress.
