This beautiful Madi Lane India wedding dress underwent a complete transformation to create the bride’s dream destination wedding look. While the original gown already featured Madi Lane’s distinctive lace design, the bride wanted a softer romantic silhouette with elegant Bardot sleeves and a more personalised finish. This Madi Lane Bridal Alterations journey involved creating bespoke sleeves from scratch, refining the fit throughout the gown, shortening the dress and adding a bustle to ensure the dress was both beautiful and practical for her wedding day abroad.
Madi Lane Bridal Alterations | Bespoke Bardot Sleeves Created from Scratch
One of the most significant elements of this transformation was the creation of entirely new Bardot sleeves.
Rather than adapting existing sleeves, entirely new off-the-shoulder Bardot sleeves were designed and created specifically for this gown. The bride’s mother sourced additional lace, allowing me to carefully draft the sleeve pattern from scratch and construct the sleeves using lace motifs selected to complement the design and placement of the original lace on the bodice.
Careful consideration was given to the positioning of each lace element to ensure the new sleeves looked completely integrated with the gown rather than added afterwards. The result was a seamless transformation that appeared entirely original to the dress, creating a romantic neckline that beautifully framed the shoulders while maintaining comfort, support and security throughout the wedding day.

Madi Lane Bridal Alterations | Bespoke Detachable Cape Added to the Waist
To further personalise the gown, a detachable cape was attached at the waist. The soft flowing tulle added movement, drama and a completely different dimension to the dress while allowing the bride to retain the fitted silhouette of the original Madi Lane India gown.
The detachable design gave the bride two distinct bridal looks within a single dress. During photographs and key moments of the day, the cape created the appearance of a dramatic train, adding softness and movement behind the gown. The cape could also be removed if desired, providing greater versatility throughout the celebrations.
Combined with the bespoke Bardot sleeves, specialist fitting alterations and skin-tone lining, the finished gown became a truly individual bridal design tailored specifically to the bride’s vision.

The gown was also taken in to achieve a more precise fit through the bodice and silhouette.
Careful contouring ensured the dress followed the bride’s shape while preserving the intricate symmetry of the lace design. As with many heavily detailed wedding dresses, maintaining the visual balance of the pattern is just as important as achieving the correct fit.
Hemming and Bustle Installation
The dress was shortened to the perfect length for the bride while preserving the beautiful lace detail around the hemline. A bustle was also added, allowing the train to be lifted for comfort during the celebrations while maintaining the elegance of the gown throughout the day.
