Jesus Peiro Bridal Alterations & Bespoke Beaded Bolero Transformation

When this bride chose her elegant Jesus Peiro wedding dress from All About Eve Bridal, she loved the clean satin silhouette but envisioned a more detailed couture look for her wedding day. Alongside specialist Jesus Peiro bridal alterations to achieve the perfect fit, I was commissioned to create a completely bespoke heavily beaded illusion bolero from scratch. The finished design transformed the gown into two distinct bridal looks whilst maintaining the refined elegance that makes Jesus Peiro gowns so recognisable.
This beautiful wedding was later featured by Loved Up North, with my work credited amongst the wedding’s contributors.
Jesus Peiro Bridal Alterations

Before work on the bespoke bolero began, the gown itself required specialist bridal alterations to ensure the fit and proportions were perfectly balanced for the bride.
Work carried out included fitting adjustments throughout the bodice, contouring to refine the silhouette, the addition of a jewelled bridal belt to enhance the waistline, bustle creation for the evening reception and a complete final steam press before collection.
As with all couture bridal alterations, every adjustment was made with careful consideration for the overall balance of the gown, ensuring the clean lines of the original Jesus Peiro design remained elegant and uninterrupted.
Designing A Bespoke Bridal Bolero | Jesus Peiro Bridal Alterations
The true centrepiece of this transformation was the creation of a completely bespoke illusion bolero.

Rather than purchasing a ready-made bridal cover-up, the bride wanted something unique that appeared to have been designed as part of the dress from the very beginning.
To achieve this, I drafted an entirely new pattern specifically for her proportions using traditional dot-and-cross pattern paper before constructing the bolero in illusion tulle.
Every element was designed around the existing neckline and silhouette of the gown to ensure the finished result felt completely integrated with the original dress.
Working With Heavily Beaded Lace

The lace selected for the bolero was exceptionally heavily embellished with beads, pearls and sequins. Whilst visually beautiful, this type of lace presents significant technical challenges due to both its weight and the density of the embellishment. Rather than applying complete lace motifs directly onto the bolero, I carefully cut apart individual sections of the lace by hand.
Each motif was then repositioned individually across the illusion tulle to create a balanced design around the neckline, shoulders, sleeves and back. This process was extremely labour-intensive but essential to achieving the couture finish the bride envisioned.

Had the motifs been applied in their original arrangement, large gaps would have appeared throughout the design and the finished bolero would not have achieved the seamless appearance of a garment designed entirely from scratch.
The weight of the embellishment also required careful consideration throughout construction to ensure the bolero remained comfortable to wear whilst retaining its shape and structure throughout the wedding day.
Couture Pattern Drafting & Construction
Every section of the bolero was individually drafted, fitted and refined.

The sleeves were created specifically for the bride’s measurements and the placement of every lace motif was carefully assessed before being hand sewn into position.
The illusion back and neckline were designed to complement the clean architectural lines of the original Jesus Peiro gown whilst introducing softness, texture and intricate detail.
The result was a couture bridal garment that appeared completely natural alongside the original dress rather than an accessory added afterwards.
Two Bridal Looks In One Gown

One of the advantages of a bespoke bolero is the ability to create two distinct bridal looks throughout the wedding day.
The bride was able to enjoy the clean minimalist elegance of her original Jesus Peiro gown whilst also having the option of a romantic long-sleeved look featuring intricate beading, illusion tulle and hand-positioned lace detailing.

The transformation created visual impact whilst preserving everything she loved about her original dress.
Wedding Day Photographs
Seeing bespoke work come to life on a wedding day is always rewarding, but particularly so when months of drafting, fitting, lace placement and hand finishing appear effortless in the final photographs.

The finished bolero looks as though it was always intended to be part of the gown, which is ultimately the hallmark of successful couture bridal work.
From the intricate sleeve details and illusion back to the balanced placement of the heavily embellished lace motifs, every element was created specifically for this bride and her wedding day vision.
