Mitcham Wedding Dress Alterations for a Daria Karlozi Kristavera Gown

This beautiful Mitcham wedding dress alterations journey began when the bride was recommended to me by Brides by Aster and entrusted me with her exquisite Daria Karlozi Kristavera gown.
The Kristavera is an elegant fitted gown with a plunging neckline, a low open back and a beautifully detailed train. Although the dress was already stunning, it required extensive alterations to create the close, supportive and beautifully balanced fit the bride wanted.

Mitcham wedding dress alterations | Reshaping the Dress by 10cm
The gown needed to be taken in by approximately 10cm through the centre-back seam, continuing from the top of the dress down towards the knee.
This was a significant alteration on such a fitted wedding dress. The shape had to be carefully refined without disturbing the original silhouette, lace placement or smooth transition into the flared skirt.

The back zip and upper fastening were removed and reconstructed as part of the alteration. Once completed, the gown followed the bride’s figure beautifully while still allowing her to move comfortably.

Mitcham wedding dress alterations | Adjusting the Straps and Bodice
The straps were lifted to improve the position of the bodice and bring the neckline into better proportion.
Adjusting the straps also helped the dress sit more securely against the body. Every change was carefully balanced so that the low neckline remained elegant while providing the bride with greater confidence and support.

Mitcham wedding dress alterations | Bespoke Bust Support Within the Dress
The original bodice did not provide the level of support or shaping the bride needed. Additional internal support pieces were therefore carefully built into the front of the gown, together with double bust cups.
This created a more supportive and flattering shape while keeping all the internal construction completely discreet. From the outside, the bodice retained its soft, delicate appearance, but internally it offered considerably more structure and security.

Lowering the Shapewear for the Open Back
Because the Kristavera dress has a beautifully low open back, the bride’s shapewear was originally visible above the back of the gown.
The shapewear underwear was carefully lowered and adapted so that it remained hidden beneath the dress while continuing to provide support. This allowed the bride to enjoy the dramatic low-back design without any underwear showing.

It was a small but essential detail in creating a clean and polished finish from every angle.
Shortening the Layered Bridal Hem
The wedding dress was shortened to the bride’s chosen shoes and finished length.
With its combination of fitted lace, soft layers and a flowing train, each section needed to be adjusted carefully so that the skirt continued to fall naturally. The finished hem allowed the bride to walk comfortably without losing the beautiful movement and proportions of the original design.

Creating a Wedding-Dress Bustle
A discreet bustle was added to lift the train for the wedding reception.
The bustle allowed the bride to move and dance more freely after the ceremony while preserving the shape of the skirt. When released, the train could still be displayed in full for the ceremony and wedding photographs.

A Dress That Felt Made for Her
By the final fitting, the Daria Karlozi Kristavera gown had been completely reshaped around the bride.
The centre-back alteration, reconstructed zip and fastening, lifted straps, internal bust support, double cups, shortened hem, adapted shapewear and bustle all worked together to create a secure and beautifully fitted result.

Most importantly, the bride felt comfortable, confident and completely herself in her wedding dress.
The Bride’s Kind Words
“The alterations to my wedding dress were absolutely flawless. Zen worked her magic to make sure every part of the dress fitted beautifully, sat perfectly and complemented my shape

“By the time I had my final fitting, it genuinely felt as though the dress had been made especially for me. The fit was incredible, but just as importantly, I felt comfortable, confident and absolutely beautiful in it.
“Zen managed to take a dress I already loved and make it feel completely mine. Five stars without hesitation.”
Receiving such thoughtful words after the wedding means so much. It was a privilege to be trusted with this special dress and to play a small part in her wedding journey.
