Grace Loves Lace Goldie Wedding Dress Alterations for a Greater London Bride
Grace Loves Lace Bridal Alterations require a particularly careful approach when working with a clean, minimalist gown such as the Goldie wedding dress. This Greater London bride brought her beautiful Grace Loves Lace gown to my private bridal alterations studio in Sutton for several finishing adjustments before her wedding day.
The dress needed to be shortened to the correct length, discreet bust cups added for support, and a five-point ballroom bustle created so the train could be lifted neatly for the reception and dancing. Once the alterations were complete, I also professionally steam pressed the wedding dress, cape and three veils, leaving everything beautifully prepared and ready for the wedding.

Altering the Grace Loves Lace Goldie
Goldie has a wonderfully understated shape. The smooth fabric falls closely over the body before flowing into the skirt and train, while the halter neckline and very low open back create much of the drama.
With a minimal wedding dress like this, fit and proportion are especially noticeable. There is no lace appliqué, heavy embellishment or layered skirt to disguise an alteration, so the finished work needs to remain as clean and unobtrusive as possible.
My aim was to preserve the effortless appearance of the original Grace Loves Lace design while making the gown work perfectly for the bride.
Grace Loves Lace Bridal alterations | Shortening the Wedding Dress
The first alteration was to shorten the Goldie gown to the bride’s correct finished length.
The hem was adjusted with her wedding shoes in mind so that the skirt would fall elegantly without being too long at the front.
On a fluid wedding dress, getting the length right is about more than simply removing fabric. The finished hem needs to sit evenly while allowing the skirt to retain its natural movement and drape.

I also added bust cups inside the gown.
Because Goldie has such a low open back, conventional bridal underwear can be difficult to wear without becoming visible. Adding support directly into the dress gave the bride a little more shaping and security without changing the clean appearance of the gown.
The cups were positioned discreetly so that the front of the dress still retained the soft, uncomplicated look of the original design.
Grace Loves Lace Bridal alterations | Creating a Five-Point Ballroom Bustle
Goldie’s train is one of the features that makes the dress so striking, particularly during the ceremony and photographs.
Later in the wedding day, however, a long train can become impractical.
I created a five-point ballroom bustle so that the train could be lifted neatly for the reception and dancing.
Using five carefully positioned bustle points allowed the fabric to be distributed across the back of the gown rather than gathering the entire train into one place.
The result was a much more balanced finish which allowed the bride to move freely while still keeping the dress looking elegant.
Professional Steam Pressing for the Dress and Three Veils
Once all the alterations were completed, I professionally steam pressed the wedding dress.
This final stage is particularly important on a smooth bridal fabric because even relatively small creases can become noticeable.
I also steam prepared three separate veils for the bride, making sure everything was ready before the wedding.
For me, pressing is very much part of finishing a bridal alteration properly. After fittings, pinning and handling during the alteration process, seeing the gown beautifully pressed is when everything finally comes together.

This was a lovely example of how several relatively discreet alterations can make a significant difference to how a wedding dress feels and functions on the wedding day.
