Bridal Alterations Molesey | Couture-Trained Wedding Dress Expert

Finding the right person for bridal alterations in Molesey can make such a difference to how a wedding dress looks, feels and moves on the day. Rachael travelled from Molesey to my Sutton studio with her beautiful Veni Infantino wedding dress, which needed careful alterations to improve the fit, refine the length and give her the support and shape she wanted.
The finished result was a beautifully balanced gown that fitted securely through the bodice, sat cleanly at the waist and moved effortlessly throughout the wedding day.
Veni Infantino Wedding Dress Alterations for a Molesey Bride

Rachael’s gown was an elegant structured wedding dress with a full skirt, off-the-shoulder detail and a long train.
Although the overall design was already beautiful, several areas needed refining so the dress would fit her properly and feel comfortable for a full day of celebrations.
The alterations included:
- shortening the wedding dress hem
- adding additional internal boning for improved structure and shaping
- refining the overall fit of the bodice
- creating a practical wedding dress bustle
- final fit adjustments
- professional steaming of the wedding dress
- professional steaming of the veil
- careful storage before the wedding
- crease-conscious preparation and packing for collection
Each alteration was completed with the aim of preserving the original design of the Veni Infantino gown while improving its fit and practicality.
Creating More Structure and Support Through the Bodice

One of the most important parts of Rachael’s wedding dress alterations was improving the structure of the bodice.
Additional boning was incorporated internally to give the gown more support and help create a cleaner, more defined shape.
With structured bridal gowns, support needs to work with the bride rather than simply making the dress tighter. The aim is to create a bodice that feels secure while still allowing the bride to sit, walk, breathe and enjoy the wedding comfortably.

The finished bodice sat beautifully against Rachael and gave her the elegant, supported silhouette she wanted.
Shortening the Wedding Dress Hem
The skirt also needed shortening to the correct length.
Wedding dress hems need to be measured with the bride wearing the shoes she intends to wear on the day because even a relatively small change in heel height can affect how the gown sits.

With a full bridal skirt like this one, the hem needs to appear level while the bride is standing and also allow enough clearance for comfortable walking.
The finished length allowed the front of the gown to fall beautifully without overwhelming Rachael’s frame.
Adding a Wedding Dress Bustle
Rachael’s gown had a generous train, which looked beautiful during the ceremony and photographs but needed to be manageable later in the day.
I therefore created a wedding dress bustle so that the train could be lifted securely after the formal part of the wedding.

A well-positioned bustle should preserve the shape of the skirt rather than pulling the fabric into an awkward bunch.
It also allows the bride to move more freely during the reception and dancing while protecting the train from being stepped on.
Rachael’s wedding photographs show exactly why this matters — the gown looked beautiful both when the train was fully extended and when she was moving around during the celebrations.
Final Bridal Fitting
The final fitting is one of the most important stages of any bridal alterations Molesey appointment.

This is where the complete balance of the gown can be assessed once all of the major alterations have been completed.
The bodice, hem, neckline, skirt and train all need to work together as one finished garment.
For Rachael, the final result was a gown that felt secure through the bodice while retaining the softness and movement of the original Veni Infantino design.
Seeing the wedding-day photographs afterwards was especially lovely because they showed how naturally the dress moved once she was away from the fitting room.
Professional Wedding Dress and Veil Steaming

Once the alterations were complete, I professionally steamed both Rachael’s wedding dress and veil.
This is an important final stage of my bridal service because even a beautifully altered gown can lose some of its impact if it is heavily creased.
Large wedding dresses can be particularly difficult to steam safely at home because of the amount of fabric involved and the different materials used throughout the gown.
After steaming, I stored Rachael’s dress and veil carefully until the day before her wedding.
Preparing the Dress for Crease-Free Collection
Rachael collected her wedding dress and veil the day before her wedding.

Everything was carefully prepared and packed in front of her so that the gown could be transported while minimising creasing.
This is something I take particular care with because brides already have enough to think about immediately before their wedding.
The aim is for the dress to arrive ready to wear without creating another last-minute job.
Rachael later confirmed in her review that when she took the dress out the following day, there was not a single crease and it required no additional steaming.
For me, that is exactly how the final stage of wedding dress preparation should work.
From the Sutton Studio to the Wedding Day
One of the most rewarding parts of bridal alterations is seeing photographs of the finished dress being worn properly on the wedding day.
Rachael’s photographs show the gown in several completely different situations — walking outside, during the ceremony, being photographed and moving through a cloud of confetti.
The dress remained beautifully balanced throughout.
The structured bodice stayed secure, the full skirt retained its shape and the shortened hem allowed her to move comfortably without losing the drama of the gown.
Rachael’s Review
Rachael later left this wonderful review:
“I couldn’t recommend Zen highly enough! She altered my wedding dress perfectly, adding a bustle, shortening the length and adding some boning to ensure it fitted beautifully and gave me the perfect shape.
Zen also steamed both my dress and veil and kindly kept them for me until the day before my wedding. She packaged everything so carefully in front of me, and her diligence meant that when I took everything out the next day, there wasn’t a single crease and the dress needed no further steaming — which was such a relief on an already busy wedding day!
Zen was also such a joy to be around throughout the whole process — warm, professional, meticulous and genuinely caring. I felt completely confident leaving such an important part of my wedding in her hands.
I would highly recommend her to any bride.”
Thank you, Rachael, for trusting me with such an important part of your wedding preparations and for travelling from Molesey to my Sutton studio.
It was an absolute pleasure working with you and seeing the finished Veni Infantino gown looking so beautiful on your wedding day.
