Justin Alexander Wedding Dress Alterations London | Bridal Expert

When this bride came to me for her Justin Alexander wedding dress alterations, there were just three weeks to go before her wedding day. Her beautiful ivory Justin Alexander 55181 wedding dress, purchased from London Bride, has a clean, elegant silhouette with an off-the-shoulder draped neckline, fitted bodice and flowing train. With a minimalist gown like this, the fit and finish are especially important because every line of the dress can be seen.
The aim was to make sure the gown sat beautifully on her body, gave her the support she needed and was comfortable enough to enjoy throughout the wedding day.
Altering the Justin Alexander 55181 Wedding Dress

The dress needed several important alterations and finishing touches before the wedding.
I:
- shortened the wedding dress to the correct length
- added bust support for improved shape and security
- created a three-point ballroom bustle for the train
- professionally steam pressed the wedding dress before collection
Each alteration was designed to preserve the beautiful simplicity and structure of the original Justin Alexander design.
Shortening a Fitted Justin Alexander Wedding Dress
Getting the hem right is particularly important on a fitted gown.
The dress needed to fall cleanly to the floor without excess fabric gathering around the bride’s feet. The hem was shortened to work with her wedding shoes while maintaining the original proportions and graceful shape of the gown.

The finished wedding photograph shows just how beautifully the dress falls from the waist and hips into the skirt and train.
Justin Alexander Wedding Dress Alterations London Expert | Adding Bust Support
I also added additional bust support inside the gown.
With an off-the-shoulder neckline, the internal structure of the dress has to do much of the work. The support needed to remain completely hidden while helping the bodice sit securely and giving the bride confidence when standing, walking and dancing.
It is one of those alterations that may not be obvious when looking at the finished dress — but it can make an enormous difference to how a bride feels wearing it.
Justin Alexander Wedding Dress Alterations London Expert | A Three-Point Ballroom Bustle for the Train
The Justin Alexander 55181 has a beautiful train, which looks wonderful during the ceremony and photographs.

For later in the day, however, the bride needed a practical way of lifting the train.
I created a three-point ballroom bustle, allowing the train to be lifted neatly while keeping the overall shape of the gown elegant.
A carefully positioned bustle means a bride can move and dance more freely without simply gathering the train into one heavy point.
Professional Wedding Dress Steam Pressing
Once all the alterations were completed, I steam pressed the wedding dress so it was ready for the wedding.

Professional pressing is the final stage of many of the bridal alterations I carry out in my Sutton studio. It allows the seams, skirt and train to settle beautifully so that the gown is presented at its best when the bride puts it on.
And the wedding-day photograph says everything — she looked absolutely beautiful.
Three Weeks Before the Wedding
This was also a particularly memorable alteration because the bride first came to me only three weeks before her wedding.
Although I normally recommend brides arrange their alterations earlier where possible, occasionally circumstances mean a shorter timeframe is necessary.

The important thing was to carefully prioritise the work needed and make sure the dress was completed properly rather than simply rushing the alterations.
Her message after the wedding made it particularly special.
What the Bride Said

“Zen has been an absolutely wonderful person to work with!! I came to her for alterations 3 weeks before my wedding, and what she delivered was beyond amazing. She made my dress feel like a dream, and truly made me feel my best.”
She also very kindly mentioned the advice and guidance she received during her appointments:
“Zen is so easy to talk to, and her professionalism and knowledge really shone through at our appointments.”
For me, bridal alterations are not simply about sewing a dress. I want a bride to understand how her dress should sit, how to move comfortably in it and how to make the most of the gown on her wedding day.
Receiving a message like this afterwards means a great deal.
