Heidi Hudson Hali Wedding Dress Alterations | Greater London WED2B bride
These Heidi Hudson bridal alterations were completed on a beautiful blush Hali wedding dress from Wed2B. The gown was brought to my private bridal studio in Sutton, Surrey, where I carefully reshaped the bodice, reduced the cup size, added a discreet bustle and professionally steam-pressed the dress twice for two separate wedding celebrations.
With its romantic off-the-shoulder neckline, delicately embellished bodice and softly pleated tulle skirt, Hali is a wonderfully light and feminine design. However, achieving the right fit required considerably more precision than simply taking in the dress through its side seams.
The bodice needed to be carefully reshaped, with more fabric removed from the front than from the back to reduce the cup size and create a closer, more balanced fit.
Heidi Hudson Bridal Alterations | Reshaping the Heidi Hudson Hali Bodice
Although the dress needed taking in overall, the bride required a greater reduction across the front of the bodice than across her back.
Taking the same amount evenly through a conventional side-seam alteration would not have produced the correct result. It could have made the back unnecessarily tight while leaving too much volume within the bust and cup area.
Instead, I separated the front and back sections at the side seams. This allowed me to work on each area independently and control exactly where the excess fabric was removed.
More was taken from the front of the dress to reduce the cup volume and bring the bodice closer to the bride’s natural proportions. The back was adjusted separately so that it remained smooth, comfortable and correctly balanced.
Heidi Hudson Bridal Alterations | Reducing the Cup Size Without Losing the Original Design
Reducing the cup area of a structured wedding dress requires more than making the outer fabric smaller.
The Hali gown has several layers within its bodice, together with boning, lining and lace appliqué. These elements all had to be considered while the front was reshaped.
The aim was to create a more secure and flattering fit without changing the romantic appearance of the sweetheart neckline. After the bodice had been adjusted, the internal layers were reconstructed and the side seams were carefully finished.
The completed alteration blended naturally into the original dress, while giving the bride a much neater fit across the bust.
Heidi Hudson Bridal Alterations | Preserving the Off-the-Shoulder Neckline
The soft lace straps are an important part of the Heidi Hudson Hali design. They create the gown’s delicate off-the-shoulder appearance and visually connect with the embroidered bodice.
When altering this type of neckline, the bodice needs to sit in exactly the right position. If it remains too large, the dress may feel insecure and the sleeves can fall incorrectly. If it is made too tight in the wrong places, the neckline may become distorted.
Reshaping the front and back separately allowed the neckline and sleeves to sit more naturally while preserving the original character of the gown.
Heidi Hudson Bridal Alterations | Adding a Wedding Dress Bustle
The Hali dress has a soft, flowing skirt that extends into a beautiful train. While the train looks lovely during the ceremony and in photographs, lifting it later makes walking and celebrating much easier.
I added a discreet wedding dress bustle so that the train could be secured after the formal photographs. The bustle was positioned to lift the length neatly while maintaining the soft movement and balanced shape of the skirt.
It gave the bride the freedom to move comfortably without having to carry the train throughout the rest of her celebrations.
Steam-Pressed for Two Separate Wedding Functions
This dress was worn for two separate wedding functions, so I professionally steam-pressed it twice—once before each occasion.
Pleated tulle needs patient and careful treatment. Each layer must be allowed to relax without flattening the delicate pleats or affecting the lace and structure of the bodice.
During each steam press, I worked progressively through the skirt and train so that the layers fell softly and evenly. The dress was then carefully prepared for collection, looking fresh and beautifully presented for both celebrations.
This additional preparation meant the bride could enjoy the same polished wedding-day appearance on each occasion.
A Beautiful Dress for Two Celebrations
The completed photographs show how naturally the altered bodice fitted the bride. The cup area sat closer to her figure, the back remained smooth and the off-the-shoulder neckline retained its romantic shape.
The soft skirt and train also photographed beautifully at both celebrations—from the bright coastal setting to the atmospheric lakeside portraits later in the day.
Most importantly, the alterations allowed the bride to feel secure and comfortable while holding her children, walking outdoors and enjoying each part of her celebrations.
