Carshalton Bridal Alterations: A Maggie Sottero Natalie Marie Gown for a Wedding in Malta

Carshalton Wedding Dress Alterations, Maggie Sottero Natalie Marie Design Carshalton bride, Malta destination wedding celebration.

This Carshalton wedding dress alterations story features a bride who travelled to my Sutton studio with her Maggie Sottero Natalie Marie gown, seeking further help after previous alterations in Portsmouth. Ahead of her wedding in Malta, I corrected a fold beneath the bust, added an inner corset for support, secured loose lace and replaced the bustle that had fallen apart.

With her wedding in Malta approaching, there were still several details that needed attention. A fold was forming beneath the bust, some of the lace had become loose, some was missing, and the previous bustle had fallen apart. My work focused on correcting these concerns, adding internal support and preparing her gown for its journey overseas.

Alongside her bridal alterations, I also altered the groom’s outfit and her father-in-law’s jacket—a lovely opportunity to help several members of the family prepare for the celebration.

Carshalton Wedding dress alterations | Looking Carefully at What the Dress Needed

When a wedding dress has already undergone alterations, the starting point is a careful assessment of how it now sits on the bride. The important thing is to understand the remaining concerns and work out which adjustments will help.

For this bride, the fold beneath the bust was a particular area to address. Even a relatively small fold can interrupt the line of a bodice, especially where the fabric should sit smoothly against the body.

Bridal alterations are not always about taking a gown in or shortening its hem. Sometimes, the most valuable changes involve the support beneath the fabric and the way the bodice sits when the bride is wearing it.

Carshalton Wedding dress alterations | Correcting the Fold Beneath the Bust

I worked on the under-bust area to remove the fold and improve the line of the bodice.

This kind of correction requires attention to the relationship between the outer fabric, the fit and the underlying structure. Simply tightening an area does not necessarily resolve the reason a fold is appearing.

Fold under the bust was corrected after meticulously unpicking all lace in this Carshalton wedding dress alterations at my Sutton Studio.

My aim was to help the bodice sit more smoothly while retaining the original character of her Maggie Sottero Natalie Marie gown. The dress should still feel like the dress the bride chose, with the alterations quietly improving how it fits and supports her.

Carshalton Wedding Dress Alterations | Adding an Inner Corset for Support

As part of the alterations, I added an inner corset to give the gown additional support from within.

Internal construction is an important part of bridal work, even though it is largely hidden once the dress is on. The outer appearance and the structure underneath need to work together.

For this gown, the added corset formed part of the work to improve the bodice’s fit and support. These less visible alterations can be just as important as the finishing details a bride sees in the mirror.

Carshalton Wedding Dress Alterations | Securing the Loose Lace

I also attended to the loose lace, carefully securing the areas that needed attention.

Lace needs thoughtful handling so that any repairs sit comfortably within the existing design. The aim is for the finished work to blend into the gown, allowing the lace itself to remain the focus.

Alongside the structural adjustments, this finishing work helped bring the dress together ready for the wedding.

Replacing the Previous Bustle

The bride’s previous bustle had fallen apart, so I fitted a new one.

A bustle allows the train to be lifted for the reception, making it easier to move around and enjoy the celebrations. Although it can appear to be a small addition, it has a practical job to do and needs careful consideration.

The new bustle gave her a replacement arrangement for lifting the train when it was time to move from the ceremony into the rest of her wedding day.

Preparing the Wedding Dress for Malta

My work did not end with the alterations. I also carefully packed the gown for the bride’s journey to Malta.

For a destination wedding, packing the dress is another important part of the preparations. After all the fitting and finishing work, it was lovely to help with this final stage before her gown travelled overseas.

From the under-bust correction to the secured lace, inner corset and new bustle, each part of the work contributed to getting her dress ready for the celebration.

Alterations for the Groom and Father-in-Law

Alongside the bride’s gown, I carried out alterations for her groom and adjusted her father-in-law’s jacket.

Wedding preparations often bring several members of a family through my studio. Each outfit needs its own assessment, with attention to the person wearing it and how the garment fits.

It was a pleasure to play a part in preparing their outfits alongside the bridal gown.
