Choosing your wedding dress is a special moment, and carefully considered alterations help make it your own. As a WED2B bridal alterations expert in Sutton, featured in both the WED2B Greater London & Surrey Seamstress Directories, I welcomed this Greater London bride with her beautiful Heidi Hudson Marisol gown, ready to adapt its length and support while preserving its delicate character.

Her alterations included removing the train, shortening the skirt all around and adding bust support. I then professionally steam pressed the gown to complete its preparation.

There was also a lovely personal moment during the fitting: seeing the groom help the bride put on her shoes. Such a tender gesture brought warmth to the practical business of getting her wedding dress just right.

Marisol combines a delicately patterned sheer bodice with long sleeves and a soft chiffon A-line skirt. The detailed upper half contrasts beautifully with the simplicity of the flowing skirt, giving the gown a light, romantic appearance.

With a design like this, thoughtful alterations need to respect both the decorative details and the way the fabric falls. For this bride, the work centred on creating a gown without a trailing train, alongside additional bust support.

WED2B Bridal Alterations Expert | Removing the Train and Shortening the Skirt All Around

I removed the train and adjusted the hem all around, creating a floor-length silhouette while keeping the flowing character of the original skirt.

Removing a wedding dress train involves more than cutting away the extra fabric at the back. The new hem needs to flow smoothly from the front through the sides and around the back, so the finished skirt looks balanced.

Chiffon also requires a light, careful finish. A bulky hem can interrupt its movement, so attention to the edge is an important part of retaining the softness of the gown.

The result was a simpler outline, with no train to gather up or bustle.

WED2B Bridal Alterations Expert | Adding Bust Support to the Delicate Bodice

I added bust support to give the bride additional support and shaping within the gown.

A sheer, decorative bodice needs particular consideration: the support must work with the design and sit appropriately beneath it. The aim was to complement Marisol’s delicate appearance while improving how the bodice felt and fitted.

This is an important part of bridal alterations. The dress should feel comfortable and supported as well as look beautiful.

A Lovely Moment with the Bride and Groom

One of the sweetest moments of this fitting was watching the groom help the bride put on her shoes.

Wedding shoes have a practical role at a fitting, helping establish the correct hem length. But this small act of care made that ordinary part of the appointment particularly memorable.

These are the moments I treasure in my work: getting to know the people wearing the dresses and sharing a little of the excitement surrounding their wedding.

Professional Steam Pressing for the Final Finish

After completing the alterations, I professionally steam pressed the dress to smooth creases and allow the skirt to fall naturally.

Finishing is an essential part of preparing a wedding gown. With Marisol’s flowing chiffon skirt, careful pressing helped reveal the soft drape and the newly finished hem.

The completed gown retained its romantic sleeves, delicate bodice and graceful movement, now with a train-free skirt and additional bust support.
