KYHA Eaton Wedding Dress Alterations | Walton-on-the-Hill Bride
When a wedding dress looks beautifully simple from the outside, some of the most complicated alteration work can be hidden underneath. This bride travelled from Walton-on-the-Hill in Surrey to my bridal alterations studio in Sutton after being personally recommended by one of my previous brides. I had previously altered that bride’s WED2B wedding dress, and it was lovely to have another bride come to me through her recommendation for her KYHA Eaton Wedding Dress Alterations.

For her own wedding, she had chosen the beautifully structured Eaton wedding dress by KYHA. The gown required a substantial reduction through the corseted bodice, shortening, additional cups for support and shaping, and professional pressing and steaming before the wedding.
In her later review, the bride described the original dress as being around 1.5 sizes too big. With such a clean, architectural gown, achieving the correct fit meant carefully reconstructing what was happening underneath the satin while keeping the outside looking effortless.
Altering the KYHA Eaton Wedding Dress
The KYHA Eaton has a striking modern silhouette: a long strapless corseted bodice, fine lace edging along the neckline and a softly draped skirt that contrasts beautifully with the structure above it.
Minimalist wedding dresses can sometimes be among the most demanding gowns to alter. There are no heavy lace appliqués, beading or embellishments to disguise changes in the construction. Every seam, line and curve has to sit correctly.
For this dress, the bodice needed to be taken in considerably so that it fitted securely around the bride’s body rather than sitting away from her.
This was not simply a case of removing excess fabric from one seam. The internal construction also had to be opened, altered and carefully rebuilt.
Inside the KYHA Eaton Corset
One of the reasons I photographed this alteration while it was in progress was to show how much work can be hidden inside a seemingly simple wedding dress.
Once the gown was opened, the internal boning, structured panels and multiple layers of the corset became visible.
Each element contributes to the shape and support of the finished bodice. When reducing a structured wedding gown substantially, those internal components have to continue working together after the alteration.
I carefully worked through the required sections, reshaping the bodice while maintaining the position and function of the boning.
The outer satin then needed to sit smoothly over the reconstructed interior, without pulling, twisting or showing where the alterations had been made.
That is the part of bridal alterations that fascinates me most: when the gown is finished, much of the work should be completely invisible.
KYHA Eaton Wedding Dress Alterations | Taking the Corseted Bodice In
The bride needed a much closer fit through the entire bodice.
Rather than simply making the dress smaller, the aim was to reshape it around her proportions while keeping the distinctive elongated corset line of the Eaton.
The waist became much more defined, the bodice sat securely against the body and the structured panels followed her shape much more naturally.
The finished wedding photographs show just how important that internal work was. The bodice remained beautifully fitted and supportive while still looking clean and uncomplicated from the outside.
KYHA Eaton Wedding Dress Alterations | Adding Cups & Inner Elasticated Corset bands for Additional Support
The bride also needed cups added into the bodice.
With a strapless corseted wedding dress, bust support needs to work together with the existing structure rather than appearing as a separate addition.
The cups were positioned to complement the corsetry and improve both the shape and security of the bodice.
In her review, the bride mentioned that she was initially unsure exactly what alterations she needed and appreciated being advised on the changes that would improve the fit.
For me, that is an important part of a bridal fitting. A bride does not need to arrive knowing the technical solution — that is what the fitting process is for.
KYHA Eaton Wedding Dress Alterations | Preserving the Delicate Lace Neckline
The fine lace edging along the top of the Eaton is one of its prettiest understated details.
Because the bodice was being reduced considerably, the neckline also needed to remain balanced once the new fit was established.
On a minimalist dress, even very small details can affect the finished appearance. The lace needed to sit softly and evenly while the structured bodice underneath remained secure against the body.
Shortening the KYHA Eaton
The gown also needed to be shortened to the bride’s correct finished length.
The Eaton has a sleek fitted front before opening into its dramatic train, so the new hem needed to preserve that long, clean line.
Once shortened, the bride could walk comfortably without losing the proportions of the original design.
The train remained one of the gown’s most dramatic features, opening beautifully behind the dress when arranged fully and giving a completely different appearance from the sleek front silhouette.
KYHA Eaton Wedding Dress Alterations | A Dramatic Train Hidden Behind a Minimalist Silhouette
One of my favourite things about this dress is the contrast between the very fitted front and its generous train.
From the front, the Eaton looks beautifully streamlined. From behind, the matte satin opens into a much fuller sweep of fabric.
During the final fitting I was able to spread the train fully, showing how dramatically it changes the silhouette of the gown.
It is also a good example of why wedding dresses need to be assessed as complete garments. The fit at the bodice, waist and hips affects how the skirt and train fall, so each part of the alteration has to work with the rest of the design.
The Finished KYHA Eaton Fit
Once the alterations were completed, the difference was considerable.
The gown now followed the bride’s body closely through the structured bodice and waist while retaining the unmistakable proportions of the KYHA Eaton.
The soft draping across the skirt remained relaxed rather than looking tight, while the corseted upper section gave the bride the support and definition she needed.
Seeing the wedding-day photographs afterwards was particularly special.
The dress looked effortless — which is exactly what I want after a complicated alteration. There was no obvious sign from the outside of how much internal work had been required to achieve the finished fit.
Professionally Pressed and Steamed for the Wedding
After the fitting work was completed, I also professionally pressed and steamed the wedding dress before the wedding.
The Eaton’s smooth matte satin shows its shape beautifully, but it also means that creases and handling marks can be very noticeable.
Careful finishing allowed the draping, skirt and train to settle properly so that the dress was ready for the wedding day.
The bride specifically mentioned the final pressing in her review, saying that the dress had been “pressed really well.”
The Bride’s Five-Star Review
Receiving the bride’s review afterwards meant a great deal, especially because she described both the alterations themselves and how she felt throughout the process.

For a bride, choosing someone to alter a wedding dress can feel very different from choosing an ordinary alterations service. A wedding gown can represent a significant investment, and in this case there was extensive internal corsetry that needed to be opened and reconstructed.

For this KYHA Eaton wedding dress, the alteration work included:
- a substantial reduction through the structured corseted bodice
- reshaping and reconstructing the internal corsetry
