Indian Bridal Lehenga and Choli Stitching in London | Hayes Bride
This beautiful commission shows the specialist work involved in Indian bridal lehenga and choli stitching in London. The bride travelled from Hayes to my private studio in Sutton with heavily embroidered bridal fabric purchased from Ladlee Boutique in Leicester.
I stitched both the full lehenga skirt and its matching choli, carefully preserving the intricate embroidery throughout the construction. The bride also required specialist shaping for a fuller bust, so supportive cups and additional contouring were incorporated into the choli. After a first fitting and one follow-up appointment, everything fitted perfectly. The complete outfit was then professionally steam pressed and prepared for collection.
A Heavily Embroidered Bridal Outfit from Ladlee Boutique
The dusty-rose bridal fabric featured detailed gold embroidery, shimmering sequins and delicate floral motifs in soft complementary colours.
The lehenga included richly decorated vertical panels and a deep embroidered border. The choli fabric combined heavier embroidered sections with smaller scattered motifs and decorative edging around the neckline, waist and sleeves.
Working with fabric of this weight and detail requires careful planning. Every seam must be considered before construction so that the embroidered design remains balanced and the embellishment is not unnecessarily disturbed.
Constructing the Full Bridal Lehenga
I constructed the lehenga to sit comfortably around the bride’s waist while maintaining the fullness and movement of the skirt.
The weight of the embroidery needed to be distributed evenly so that the lehenga remained balanced when worn. I also carefully positioned the decorative panels so that the vertical motifs flowed naturally around the skirt and the elaborate border remained level.
The finished silhouette showcased the richness of the fabric without allowing its weight to overwhelm the bride’s figure.
Supportive Bridal Choli Stitching for a Fuller Bust
The matching choli, or cropped bridal blouse, required particularly precise fitting.
As the bride had a fuller bust, the choli needed more than standard blouse construction. Making the entire blouse larger would have created excess fabric around the neckline, shoulders and waist. Instead, the necessary room and shaping were created specifically through the bust.
I carefully contoured the front of the choli to the bride’s proportions while keeping the waist fitted and the neckline secure. Supportive cups were also added inside the blouse to provide lift, definition and greater confidence.
The aim was to create support without making the choli appear bulky or overly structured. The finished neckline sat neatly against the body, while the shaped front followed the bride’s natural figure.
Indian Bridal Lehenga & Choli Stitching | Preserving the Embroidery During Construction
The choli contained several different areas of embroidery, including dense sequinned sections, individual floral motifs and decorative borders.
During the making process, the individual embroidered pieces were carefully positioned, pinned and shaped before construction. The neckline, bust panels, sleeves and decorative borders all needed to align correctly while creating the additional support required within the finished choli.
These elements had to remain visually balanced across the front of the blouse. Particular care was taken around the shaped neckline, bust, sleeves and lower edge so that the construction complemented the original design.
The technical shaping remained discreet beneath the embroidery. This allowed the decorative detail to remain the focus while the internal fit provided the support the bride needed.
Indian Bridal Lehenga & Choli Stitching | The Bride’s First Fitting in Sutton
After the lehenga and choli had been constructed, the bride attended her first fitting at my Sutton studio.
During this appointment, I checked the fit through the bust, neckline, shoulders, sleeves, back and waist. I also assessed the position of the supportive cups and made sure the bride could move comfortably while still feeling secure.
The lehenga was checked around the waist, together with its length, balance and overall fall. This was especially important because of the weight of the embroidered skirt and border.
The first fitting allowed me to refine the outfit directly on the bride’s body and identify the small adjustments required for the final fit.
Indian bridal lehenga & Choli | Everything Perfect at the Follow-Up Fitting
The bride returned for one follow-up fitting after the refinements had been completed.
Everything fitted perfectly.
The choli sat smoothly and securely around the bust. The internal cups provided comfortable support, the neckline followed the bride’s shape neatly and the fitted waist created a flattering transition into the full lehenga skirt.
The back neckline sat beautifully, and the sleeves were comfortable and balanced. Once the matching dupatta was draped over the finished outfit, the lehenga, choli and dupatta came together as one complete bridal look.
Only a first fitting followed by one follow-up appointment was needed to achieve the finished result.
Indian Bridal Lehenga & Choli Stitching | Professional Steam Pressing of the Bridal Outfit
Once all the fitting work was complete, I professionally steam pressed the lehenga, choli and matching dupatta.
Extra care was required around the dense embroidery, sequins and metallic detailing. Each piece was treated gradually to release construction creases without flattening or damaging the embellishment.
The final steam pressing helped the lehenga panels fall smoothly, refined the shape of the choli and restored the soft, flowing finish of the dupatta. The entire outfit was then carefully checked and prepared for the bride’s collection.

A Beautiful Made-to-Measure Bridal Result
The finished outfit combined traditional Indian bridal detailing with an individually tailored and supportive fit.
The dusty-rose colour worked beautifully with the gold and pastel embroidery. Most importantly, the carefully shaped choli allowed the bride to feel comfortable and confident without compromising the design of her outfit.
This project demonstrates why specialist shaping is so important for fuller-busted brides. The correct fit should provide room and support exactly where they are needed while keeping the neckline, shoulders and waist proportionate.
