Wedding Dress Alterations Beddington | Wed2B Blakely Fuller-Bust Transformation

This bride travelled from Beddington to my private bridal alterations studio in Sutton with her beautiful Blakely wedding dress by Aaliyah Quinn for Wed2B.
The fitted ivory gown featured delicate lace appliqué, long illusion sleeves, a plunging neckline and a beautifully detailed lace train. Although the dress suited the bride wonderfully, the original bodice and internal cups did not accommodate her fuller bust correctly.
This was not going to be a straightforward cup replacement. The entire upper bodice needed to be carefully refitted and reshaped to provide the right amount of room, support and definition while preserving the original design of the dress.
Wedding Dress Alterations Beddington | When Wedding Dress Cups Are Too Small
At the bride’s first fitting, the original internal cups were considerably too small for her bust.
Rather than enclosing and supporting her natural shape, the cups sat visibly on the surface of the bust. Their small outlines created raised areas while the bride’s fuller bust was compressed and flattened beneath the bodice.
This prevented the top of the dress from sitting smoothly and made the internal cup size look out of proportion with the bride’s figure. Simply attaching larger cups over the existing construction would not have corrected the problem.
The complete upper section of the dress needed to be reshaped so that her bust could sit comfortably within the bodice rather than being compressed behind it.
Wedding Dress Alterations Beddington | Removing the Original Cups and Reshaping the Bodice
I carefully removed the original undersized cups and assessed how much additional room was required across the bust.
Larger cups were selected to complement the bride’s natural proportions and provide a much better foundation. However, fitting the new cups was only one part of the alteration.

The surrounding bodice also had to be opened, reshaped and carefully refitted around the new bust position. This allowed the fuller part of the bust to sit naturally inside the dress while retaining the beautiful plunging neckline and sheer centre panel.
Every adjustment had to work with the existing lace, structure and long illusion sleeves so that the finished alteration remained discreet and looked completely integrated into the original gown.
Wedding Dress Alterations Beddington | Taking in the Dress Beneath the Bust
Once sufficient room had been created across the bust, the dress needed to fit more closely underneath it.
I took in and contoured the underbust area to create a secure foundation for the newly fitted cups. This closer fit helped anchor the bodice against the bride’s body and gave her bust the support it needed.

The combination of greater room across the fullest part of the bust and a closer fit beneath it created a much smoother and more defined silhouette. It also prevented the bodice from shifting or feeling insecure when the bride moved.
Fuller-bust bridal alterations are often about achieving this careful balance: enough space where it is needed, combined with a close and supportive fit underneath.
Preserving the Original Wed2B Blakely Design
The Blakely is a romantic fitted wedding dress with intricate lace detailing, illusion sleeves and a deep neckline. It was important that the structural alterations did not change the character of the gown.

The reshaped bodice retained the original plunging neckline while providing a much more flattering scale and proportion for the bride. The lace continued to flow smoothly across the top, and the finished work blended naturally with the existing construction.
The aim of expert bridal alterations is not for the alteration itself to be noticed. The finished dress should simply look as though it was originally made to fit the bride.
Adding a Wedding Dress Bustle
The Blakely gown has a beautiful lace train which deserved to be displayed fully during the ceremony and wedding photographs.
I added a secure bustle so the train could be lifted from the floor for the reception. This allowed the bride to walk and dance more comfortably while protecting the delicate lace from being stepped on or dragged across the floor.
The bustle was positioned to distribute the weight of the train and preserve the shape of the fitted skirt when lifted
Professional Wedding Dress Steam Pressing

Once all the alterations had been completed and the final fit had been checked, the entire gown was professionally steam-pressed.
The lace appliqué, illusion sleeves, fitted skirt and train were carefully prepared so that the dress looked fresh, smooth and beautifully presented. Particular attention was given to opening the lace train and arranging its scalloped edge so that every detail could be appreciated.
The completed wedding dress was then prepared ready for the bride’s collection and wedding day.
The Finished Fuller-Bust Transformation
The completed bodice looked far more balanced and proportional to the bride’s figure.

The larger cups provided the space and shaping she needed, while the closer underbust fit created support, security and definition. Her bust was no longer compressed by cups that were too small and could sit naturally within the newly reshaped top.
Most importantly, the bride retained the dramatic neckline and romantic lace design that had originally attracted her to the dress.
This transformation demonstrates why fuller-bust wedding dress alterations frequently require more than changing the cups. The cups, bodice, underbust and neckline must all work together to create a comfortable and supportive result.
