Greater London Bridal Alterations | Blue by Enzoani Lena Wedding Dress
Finding the right specialist for Greater London bridal alterations can make an enormous difference to how a wedding dress looks, feels and performs on the wedding day. A beautiful designer gown may have the right style, but achieving a truly flattering fit often requires considerably more than simply taking in a seam or shortening a hem.
This bridal transformation features a beautiful Blue by Enzoani Lena wedding dress that required extensive alterations to create a sculpted, supportive and comfortable fit.
The gown was taken in considerably, the delicate straps were shortened, substantial internal bust support was added, and the hem was professionally shortened. I also created a bustle and separate dance loop so that the bride could manage her beautiful lace train comfortably during the wedding reception.
The finished result demonstrates exactly why specialist bridal alterations are so important when working with a fitted designer wedding gown.
Greater London Bridal Alterations | A Blue by Enzoani Lena Wedding Dress Transformation
The Blue by Enzoani Lena is an elegant fitted wedding dress combining a beautifully detailed lace bodice with a smooth, figure-skimming skirt and an elaborate lace-edged train.
When altering a gown with this type of silhouette, the fit has to be carefully balanced from the bust through the waist and hips. Even relatively small changes can affect how the entire dress falls.
In this case, however, the gown required significant reduction and reshaping.
My aim was not simply to make the dress smaller. I wanted to preserve the proportions and character of the original Blue by Enzoani design while tailoring the gown precisely to my bride.
Greater London Bridal Alterations | Taking the Wedding Dress In Considerably
One of the most extensive parts of this alteration was reducing the gown through the body.
A fitted wedding dress needs to contour the bride without pulling, twisting or creating unwanted tension across the fabric. Taking a dress in substantially therefore requires careful consideration of the entire silhouette rather than concentrating on one individual seam.
I reshaped the gown to create a much closer fit through the bodice, waist and figure while ensuring that the skirt continued to fall smoothly.
The transformation became particularly apparent once the excess fabric had been removed. Instead of the bride simply wearing a beautiful dress, the dress now looked as though it belonged to her proportions.
Greater London Bridal Alterations | Structural Bust Support Hidden Inside the Bodice
One of the most important elements of this Greater London bridal alterations project was the bust.
The gown needed considerably more support than its original construction was providing.
Rather than allowing the delicate straps to carry the weight of the bodice, I added substantial internal bust support. This helped lift and position the bust correctly while stabilising the front of the gown.
This kind of internal work is deliberately discreet. Once the wedding dress is finished, the additional structure should not be obvious from the outside.
What you see instead is a beautifully positioned neckline, improved shaping and a bride who can feel secure in her dress.
Greater London Bridal Alterations | Shortening and Rebalancing the Delicate Straps
The straps also required shortening.
On a low-backed wedding dress with fine straps, their length has an important effect on the position of the entire bodice.
If they are too long, the bodice can sit too low and the bust loses support. Simply pulling the straps excessively tight, however, is not a substitute for correctly supporting the gown internally.
I therefore shortened the straps in conjunction with the other structural alterations.
Together, the internal bust support and correctly positioned straps created a much more secure and beautifully balanced upper bodice.
Greater London Bridal Alterations | Preserving the Beautiful Low Back
One of the most striking features of this gown is its delicate low back.
The illusion sections, lace appliqué and fine embellished straps create a very light appearance, so the alteration work needed to respect these original details.
The finished back shows why careful fitting is particularly important with this style of wedding dress. Once the gown had been properly reshaped, it followed the bride’s figure beautifully while retaining the delicacy of the original Blue by Enzoani design.
Precision Wedding Dress Hem Alterations
The gown also required professional hem shortening.
Wedding dress hems need to be fitted in relation to the bride’s wedding shoes and the way the gown naturally settles on the body after the bodice alterations have been completed.
The aim is to create enough clearance for comfortable movement while still allowing the front of the gown to appear elegantly floor length.
The hem was therefore carefully measured and shortened while preserving the overall balance between the fitted skirt and dramatic train.
Protecting the Lace Train
The magnificent train is one of the features that makes this dress so special.
Its detailed lace border creates a dramatic finish, particularly when the train is completely spread out behind the bride.
Alterations around an elaborate bridal train require careful handling because its proportions and decorative placement form an important part of the gown’s design.
My alterations preserved this feature so that the train could remain a focal point for the ceremony and photographs.
Adding a Wedding Dress Bustle
A beautiful train looks spectacular during the ceremony, but the bride also needs to be able to enjoy her reception.
I therefore added a carefully positioned wedding dress bustle.
The bustle allows the train to be lifted after the ceremony and formal photographs, reducing the amount of fabric trailing behind the bride and making it much easier to move around during the reception.
The positioning of a bustle is determined individually for each gown. It needs to support the weight of the train while allowing the dress to fall attractively once bustled.
For a fitted gown such as this, I also want the bustle to complement rather than overwhelm the silhouette.
A Separate Dance Loop for the Train
In addition to the bustle, I added a dance loop.
This gives the bride another way of controlling the train when required and is particularly useful during the evening celebrations.
I frequently incorporate practical solutions such as bustles and dance loops into my bridal alterations because the dress needs to do more than look beautiful while standing still.
A bride needs to be able to walk, sit, turn, greet guests and dance comfortably in her wedding gown.
The Finished Blue by Enzoani Lena Wedding Dress
The final transformation brought all of the alterations together.
The gown had been:
- taken in considerably for a much more sculpted fit
- extensively supported internally through the bust
- rebalanced through the bodice
- adjusted through the delicate straps
- professionally shortened
- fitted with a bespoke bustle
- finished with a separate dance loop
Most importantly, these alterations did not change what made the Blue by Enzoani Lena beautiful.
Instead, they allowed the original design to sit correctly on the bride’s individual figure.
From Bridal Fitting to Wedding Day
Seeing photographs of a gown at the initial fitting and then seeing it properly fitted on the wedding day is one of the best ways to appreciate the difference specialist alterations can make.
The final photographs show a beautifully clean silhouette through the front, a fitted waist and hip line, secure bodice and the spectacular train flowing behind the bride.
From every angle, the dress now looks balanced and proportionate.

A Wedding Dress Should Look Beautiful From the Back Too
With a gown featuring such a dramatic train and low back, the rear view was every bit as important as the front.
The final wedding photographs beautifully showcase the low back, delicate straps, fitted silhouette and lace train together.
This is why I assess wedding dresses from every angle during fittings. Bridal alterations should never concentrate solely on what the bride sees when looking straight into the mirror.
The gown needs to photograph beautifully from the front, side and back.
