It was an absolute pleasure welcoming Leah Rani Chowdhry MBE to my private Sutton bridal alterations studio after she travelled from Oxshott with her stunning Kalista wedding dress by Dominiss Bridal. Leah had discovered her dream gown at Vanila Wedding Boutique in Dubai, a boutique renowned for its collection of luxury international bridal designers.

Even the most beautifully designed couture wedding gown requires expert tailoring to complement the bride’s unique proportions and ensure complete comfort and confidence throughout the wedding day.
A Designer Wedding Dress from Dubai
Leah chose the elegant Kalista gown by Dominiss Bridal, purchased from Vanila Wedding Boutique in Dubai.
The gown combines a beautifully structured corseted bodice with a dramatic satin ballgown skirt, delicate pearl embellishment and a statement oversized bow at the back. Every element was thoughtfully designed, making it essential that every alteration respected the original couture construction and silhouette.

Couture Bridal Alterations
Designer wedding dresses deserve specialist couture techniques.
Working carefully with Leah’s gown, every alteration was completed while preserving the original balance and structure of the dress. The aim was never to change the designer’s vision, but to ensure the gown looked as though it had been individually created for Leah.
The structured bodice required careful fitting to create beautiful support through the waist and bust while maintaining the elegant line of the corsetry. The full satin skirt was balanced to ensure graceful movement without losing the dramatic silhouette that makes the Kalista gown so distinctive.
Every fitting was completed with meticulous attention to detail, allowing Leah to feel completely secure and comfortable throughout her wedding day.
Cathedral Pearl Veil
Leah completed her bridal look with a beautiful cathedral-length veil delicately embellished with scattered pearls.
The veil perfectly complemented the pearl detailing on the Kalista gown, adding elegance without overwhelming the clean architectural lines of the dress. Together they created a timeless bridal look that photographed beautifully throughout the day.
Alterations for the Mother of the Bride
Alongside Leah’s wedding dress, I was also entrusted with altering her mother’s spectacular heavily hand-beaded evening gown.
The blue gown featured intricate beadwork and an elegant draped asymmetric neckline. However, due to the considerable weight of the embellishment, the draped shoulder continually slipped out of position.
Rather than altering the appearance of the gown, I created a concealed internal couture binding, hand-finished from one shoulder to the other. This hidden support stabilised the draped neckline while remaining completely invisible from the outside. The beaded crin hem was also shortened to desired length.
The result allowed the dress to retain its beautiful soft drape while ensuring it stayed securely in place throughout the wedding celebrations.
Working with heavily embellished garments requires specialist experience, as every stitch must support the weight of the beadwork without affecting the natural movement of the fabric.

Final Steam Pressing & Wedding Dress Preparation
Before Leah’s gown left my Sutton studio, the Dominiss Kalista wedding dress was carefully steam pressed and professionally prepared for transport.
Luxury wedding dresses require specialist handling, especially gowns with structured corsetry, delicate pearl embellishment and multiple layers of fabric. The final steaming process helps relax the fibres, remove any handling creases and ensure the satin skirt falls beautifully with the intended designer silhouette.
The gown was then carefully supported, packaged and prepared for a safe journey to Leah’s wedding venue, ready for her special day.
Alongside the alterations themselves, careful preparation and transport guidance are an essential part of ensuring every bride’s wedding dress arrives looking flawless.

Before collection, Leah’s gown was professionally steamed and carefully prepared for transport to ensure it remained in immaculate condition.
Every bride also receives practical advice on transporting their wedding dress safely and minimising creasing before the ceremony.
