Essense of Australia Wedding Dress Alterations | Couture Bridal Specialist

Essense of Australia wedding dress alterations require specialist skill, precision and experience working with structured bridal gowns, delicate lace and intricate embellishment.
This beautiful Essense of Australia gown arrived at my Sutton Surrey bridal alterations studio from a bride travelling from Croydon, who was looking for expert bridal alterations to achieve the perfect fit for her wedding day.
Featuring a luxurious Pearl Mikado skirt and an intricately beaded lace bodice, this gown already had a stunning foundation. However, expert bridal alterations were needed to refine the fit, enhance support and ensure the dress felt completely secure and comfortable for the wedding day.
The transformation included detailed bust and waist contouring, double cup adjustments, internal support modifications and an 18cm shortening while carefully preserving the beauty of the original lace and beadwork.
Transforming an Essense of Australia Wedding Dress Through Couture Alterations

Designer wedding gowns are created with beautiful structure and detail, but every bride’s body is unique.
A gown may need careful reshaping to achieve the intended designer silhouette while ensuring the bride feels confident and comfortable.
This Essense of Australia gown required precision alterations through the bodice and skirt to create a personalised fit without compromising the elegance of the original design.
Expert Bodice Reshaping and Bust Contouring

The lace bodice required detailed fitting adjustments to achieve a beautifully sculpted shape.
The alterations included:
- Bust-to-waist reshaping
- Under-bust contouring
- Over-bust contouring
- Double cup adjustment for enhanced support
- Internal fitting adjustments to improve comfort and stability
Working with a beaded lace bodice requires careful handling. The delicate lace appliqué, embroidery and beadwork were preserved throughout the alteration process while the internal structure was refined.
The aim was to create a seamless fit where the gown followed the bride’s shape beautifully while still feeling effortless to wear.
Creating Hidden Support Inside the Wedding Gown

Some of the most important bridal alterations are the ones guests never see.
Inside this Essense of Australia gown, careful structural adjustments were made to improve the support and security of the dress.
The hidden alterations helped to:
- create a closer, more flattering fit
- improve bust support
- maintain the gown’s position throughout the day
- allow the bride to move comfortably and confidently

Luxury bridal alterations are about combining craftsmanship with practicality — ensuring the gown looks incredible while allowing the bride to enjoy every moment.
Shortening an Essense of Australia Wedding Dress by almost 18cm
The gown required a significant 18cm shortening to achieve the perfect bridal length.

Shortening a full wedding gown involves much more than removing excess fabric. The proportions of the skirt, fullness, layers and movement all need to be carefully considered.
The beautiful Pearl Mikado skirt was shortened while maintaining the elegant volume and clean lines of the original Essense of Australia design.
The final length allowed the bride to walk comfortably while preserving the dramatic bridal silhouette.
Preserving Intricate Beaded Lace Detail
This gown featured a stunning beaded lace bodice with delicate embellishment over sheer tulle.

When working with luxury bridal fabrics, preserving the original craftsmanship is essential.
Every adjustment was carefully planned around the lace placement and beadwork to maintain the integrity of the designer gown.
This attention to detail is what allows a bridal alteration to look as though the dress was originally created specifically for the bride.
A Wedding Dress Designed to Feel as Beautiful as It Looks

After her wedding day, the bride shared how confident and comfortable she felt wearing her gown:
“I felt absolutely amazing! I’m so glad we didn’t take the dress out! I’m so glad I chose you to alter our dresses — you really are a wonderwoman.”
She also shared that the internal support and fitting adjustments worked beautifully throughout the day:
“The dress went up, the elastics stayed in place, the hooks and eyes stayed in place.…”
For me, this is the true purpose of expert bridal alterations — creating a gown that allows a bride to stop thinking about the dress and simply enjoy her wedding day.
Complete Wedding Party Alterations and Final Dress Preparation

Alongside the bride’s Essense of Australia wedding dress alterations, I was also trusted with preparing the rest of the bridal party’s outfits for the wedding day.
The service included:
- Alterations for two bridesmaid dresses
- Professional steaming of both bridesmaid gowns
- Final steam pressing of the bride’s Essense of Australia wedding dress
- Careful steaming and preparation of the bridal veil
- Final preparation of the complete wedding party wardrobe
The final steaming and finishing process is an important part of ensuring every gown looks its best when it is worn. Luxury fabrics, structured bridal gowns and delicate veils require careful handling to remove creasing while preserving the shape, texture and detail of each piece.

From the bride’s couture wedding gown to the bridesmaids’ dresses and veil, every item was prepared with the same level of care and attention before the wedding day.
