Eva Lendel WONA Naomi | Modest Couture Bridal Alterations for My Lagos Bride

My beautiful bride travelled from Lagos wearing the elegant Eva Lendel WONA Naomi wedding dress. This timeless design features a sophisticated bateau neckline, elegant long sleeves, a low open back and a luxurious full satin ballgown skirt with a dramatic cathedral train. My role was to ensure the gown fitted flawlessly, preserving Eva Lendel’s beautiful design while tailoring it precisely to my bride’s proportions so she could feel completely confident on her wedding day. My bride wanted modest wedding dress alterations to the back of the dress by complete loop and covered fabric buttons closure complementing the front of her dress.
At my private bridal alterations studio in Sutton, Surrey, I specialise in couture wedding dress alterations and bespoke bridal transformations for brides travelling from across the UK and internationally.

This elegant bride travelled all the way from Lagos, Nigeria, after being recommended by one of my previous Love Bridal brides. She flew to London for her initial fitting before returning home while I completed the extensive couture work, then travelled back again to collect her finished gown on the very day she flew home for her wedding.
That level of trust is never something I take for granted.
Finding the Perfect Dress… Almost

When my bride first visited my studio she had already found the wedding dress she loved.
She adored the luxurious full ballgown silhouette and beautiful textured fabric, but she envisioned something much more timeless and elegant than the original design offered.
She wanted her gown to feel sophisticated, graceful and modest while maintaining all of the grandeur of the original dress.

Rather than compromise, she chose to have the dress completely transformed.
Her wish list included:
- Original elegant sleeves to be better fitted.
- complete back coverage
- a refined bateau neckline front and back
- preserving the dramatic princess silhouette
- ensuring every alteration looked completely original to the gown
These alterations required reconstructing almost the entire upper bodice.
Modest Wedding Dress Alterations | Creating Full Back Coverage

Perhaps the most significant transformation was redesigning the entire back of the gown.
The original dress offered considerably less coverage than my bride wanted.
Using matching fabric, I completely reconstructed the upper back to create an elegant covered design with delicate covered buttons running down the centre.
One of the greatest compliments a bridal alteration can receive is when nobody realises any alterations have been carried out at all.
Every seam was carefully positioned to preserve the original balance of the gown so the new back appeared entirely original to the design.
Modest Wedding Dress Alterations | A New Elegant Neckline

The neckline was also completely redesigned.
Rather than altering only the back or simply attaching sleeves, I reshaped the entire upper bodice to create a graceful bateau neckline that flowed beautifully into the new sleeves.
The higher neckline softened the overall silhouette while perfectly framing my bride’s face.
Together with the now fitted sleeves and covered back, the finished bodice created exactly the elegant and modest look she had dreamed of.
Maintaining the Beauty of the Original Ballgown | Modest Wedding Dress Alterations

One of the greatest challenges with major bodice reconstruction is ensuring the original silhouette remains perfectly balanced.
The fullness of the skirt, the proportions of the waist and the relationship between the bodice and skirt all have to remain harmonious.
Throughout the alteration process great care was taken to preserve the luxurious volume of the ballgown while allowing the newly designed bodice to become the natural focal point.
The result was a wedding dress that looked effortlessly elegant from every angle.
Couture Bridal Alterations Are About More Than Sewing

Major bridal transformations are never simply about adding fabric.
Every alteration requires understanding garment engineering, pattern cutting and couture construction techniques.
Behind the finished gown were many hours spent:
- drafting bespoke back bodice patterns
- reconstructing the whole bodice
- redesigning the neckline
- creating complete back coverage
- carefully matching seams and proportions
- hand-finishing every detail
- ordering matching fabric to make covered buttons & back
- professionally steam pressing the gown before collection
Much of this work remains hidden inside the dress, yet it is these unseen details that create the flawless fit brides experience when they put their gown on.
Flying from Lagos to London for Wedding Dress Alterations

One of the things that makes this bride’s story so memorable is the journey she made.
After being recommended by one of my previous Love Bridal brides, she travelled from Lagos to my Sutton studio specifically for her alterations.
During her first visit we carefully discussed every detail of the transformation before taking all the necessary measurements and planning the reconstruction.
Once she returned to Nigeria, I completed the couture alterations before welcoming her back to London for her final fitting and collection.
Seeing her reaction when she looked in the mirror wearing her completed gown made every hour worthwhile.
The Final Result
The finished gown was exactly what she had envisioned.
An elegant full ballgown featuring beautifully fitted sleeves, a sophisticated bateau neckline and complete back coverage, all appearing entirely original to the dress.
Nothing looked added.
Nothing looked altered.
Instead, the gown looked exactly as though it had left the designer’s atelier this way.
That is always my goal with couture bridal alterations.
Professional Steam Pressing & Packing in Cabin Luggage Before Collection
Before every bridal collection appointment, each completed gown receives a full professional couture steam press. This is to give it a full quality inspection. Anything needing a spot clean or repair or and loose thread are all carefully trimmed off.
Following extensive structural alterations, this allows every seam, fold and panel to settle beautifully, ensuring the gown looks immaculate and photographs perfectly on the wedding day.
It is the final stage that completes every couture bridal transformation. As the gown then had to be packed for travel the bride made sure she had it professionally steam pressed again at her destination Wedding Venue.
