When this beautiful Élysée Valliere gown arrived at my Sutton bridal alterations studio, it already had an elegant silhouette with exquisite lace detailing and a dramatic illusion train. Like many luxury bridal gowns, however, achieving the perfect fit required far more than simply taking in a few seams. The goal of this Élysée Wedding Dress Alterations was to create a gown that looked as though it had been made exclusively for my bride while ensuring she remained completely comfortable and supported throughout her wedding day.

Élysée Wedding Dress Alterations | Creating a Perfect Couture Fit

The dress required careful reshaping through the entire body.

Rather than adjusting a single area, I sculpted the gown throughout the hips and lower torso so the lace motifs continued to flow naturally without distortion. This creates the smooth, elongated silhouette that couture gowns are known for.

One of the biggest improvements was creating far greater internal support.

I installed an inbuilt bra support system, giving the bride secure lift and stability without relying solely on the delicate lace bodice.

The result was:

reduced movement while dancing and celebrating

The support remains completely hidden inside the gown.

Every layer of the gown was shortened individually.

With heavily embroidered lace dresses like the Valliere, hemming requires careful planning so the proportions remain balanced and the lace continues to sit naturally around the hemline.

The finished dress retained its spectacular lace train while sitting perfectly for the bride’s height.

Wedding Day Bustle

To allow the bride to enjoy the evening reception, I created a discreet bustle that lifted the train securely while keeping the elegant shape of the gown intact.

A well-designed bustle should disappear into the dress when not in use and hold the train comfortably once fastened.

Alterations for the Entire Wedding Party

It was a pleasure not only to alter the bride’s beautiful Élysée Valliere gown, but also to prepare both the Mother of the Bride’s outfit and a bridesmaid’s dress for the wedding.

Working on several garments for the same family allows me to ensure every member of the bridal party feels confident and beautifully presented on such an important occasion. From the bride’s couture gown to the elegant occasionwear, each piece received the same meticulous attention to fit, comfort and finish.
