Bridal Alterations Beckenham | Martina Liana Wedding Dress Transformation

This Beckenham bride found her dream Martina Liana wedding dress at Aurora Bride in North Cheam However, like many bridal gowns, achieving the perfect fit required far more than standard alterations. This Bridal Alterations Beckenham required several alterations before the wedding day. The sleeves were taken in, the lace hem was shortened and a bustle was added for the evening reception. The gown was also reshaped through the bodice and skirt to improve the overall fit.
The result was a beautifully balanced wedding dress that looked effortless on the wedding day while concealing hours of couture craftsmanship beneath the surface.

Although the dress already fitted reasonably well in some areas, it required careful contouring throughout the bodice, waist and hips to achieve the clean silhouette the designer intended.
The gown was taken in to improve the overall fit while maintaining the integrity of the original lace placement and construction. With fitted lace dresses, the goal is never simply to make a dress smaller; it is to ensure every area remains balanced and proportionate to the bride’s figure.

The sleeves were also taken in significantly to create a closer fit through the arms. This allowed the lace to sit beautifully against the skin and enhanced the elegant silhouette of the finished gown.
Bridal Alterations Beckenham | Bespoke Corset Modification
One unique part of this project involved lining the internal corset.

The bride had a dark tattoo across her torso which remained visible through the sheer corsetry of the gown. Whilst some brides choose to showcase their tattoos, this bride preferred a softer appearance for her wedding day and photographs.
I added a skin-toned lining inside the corset. This helped soften the appearance of the tattoo while preserving the delicate look of the gown.. The fabric was selected specifically to blend with the bride’s complexion whilst maintaining the delicate appearance of the original design.

This type of work requires careful planning and precision. The objective is not simply to cover the tattoo, but to ensure the alteration appears completely natural and as though it was always part of the gown’s original construction.
These photographs demonstrate the level of craftsmanship often hidden inside a wedding dress as even in a close up the tatoo is well hidden.Whilst brides and guests see the finished result, many hours of specialist work frequently take place beneath the surface.

Lace Hem Alterations
The gown also required shortening to achieve the correct length for the bride’s height and wedding shoes.
Lace hems are amongst the most labour-intensive bridal alterations because the original lace design must be preserved whilst adjusting the length. Careful reconstruction ensured the finished hem retained the beauty and balance of the original Martina Liana design.

Wedding Dress Bustle Creation
To allow the bride to move comfortably throughout the evening celebrations, a bustle was added to lift and secure the train after the ceremony. A well-designed bustle should remain discreet whilst providing enough support to protect the gown and allow freedom of movement on the dance floor.

The Finished Result
The completed transformation looked effortless throughout the wedding day.
The fitted sleeves complemented the silhouette beautifully, the gown was perfectly contoured to the bride’s figure, the lace hem flowed naturally and the customised corset lining provided the confidence she wanted without compromising the delicate aesthetic of the dress.

Most importantly, the alterations allowed the bride to feel comfortable, confident and completely herself on her wedding day.
Kind Words From The Bride
Following her wedding, the bride sent me this lovely message:

“I just wanted to thank you for making me feel so comfortable throughout the process of working on my wedding dress. You were so complimentary and made me feel completely at ease.
I absolutely loved the work you did on my dress, and everyone commented on how gorgeous it looked!
Thank you again for everything.”
Helping brides feel relaxed and supported throughout the alterations process is just as important to me as the technical work itself. Receiving feedback like this is always incredibly rewarding.
