Stella York Wedding Dress Alterations London | International Bridal Transformation

This Stella York wedding dress alterations story begins with a bride who travelled internationally for her fittings after being highly recommended to me by a previous bride whose own bridal alterations I had completed the year before.
Some bridal stories unfold across more than one dress — and more than one celebration.
Victoria flew over separately for both her Amsterdam registration ceremony and later for her full wedding celebration, with each dress requiring its own individual bridal alterations journey.

For the intimate registration ceremony, she chose the elegant Etta Mini by Richard Designs.
For the main wedding celebration, she wore a romantic satin Stella York gown paired with a dramatic cathedral veil.
Both dresses were altered and carefully restructured through private bridal fittings at my Sutton Surrey studio, with each look tailored individually to suit the atmosphere and style of the two celebrations.
Richard Designs Etta Mini Alterations
The registration ceremony took place a month before the main wedding celebration in Amsterdam, creating an entirely separate bridal look and fitting schedule.
The bride selected the Etta Mini by Richard Designs — a beautifully draped satin mini dress with a soft contemporary silhouette. However, as the dress was in a Sample sale, it was significantly too large through the bodice and upper body structure and required extensive contour restructuring to achieve the clean sculpted fit seen on the wedding day.

Approximately 16cm was removed through the dress from the upper bodice down towards the upper hip area. The alterations were carried out carefully through the side seams and upper structure to preserve the clean satin draping while maintaining balance throughout the silhouette.

Because satin reveals every contour and tension point, the fitting process focused heavily on preserving the softness of the original drape while internally refining the structure underneath.

International Bridal Fittings Across Two Wedding Celebrations
One of the loveliest parts of this bridal journey was that Victoria travelled back and forth separately for both events, flying over four times in total across the two wedding celebrations for fittings and collections.
Working around international schedules requires careful planning and precision throughout the bridal alterations process, particularly when two completely different silhouettes are involved.
Each gown required its own fitting strategy, timing and structural approach while ensuring both final looks still felt cohesive to the bride’s overall wedding aesthetic.

For the main wedding celebration, the bride chose a romantic satin Stella York wedding gown with an elegant off-shoulder neckline and dramatic cathedral veil.
In contrast to the sleek contemporary mini dress worn for the Amsterdam registration ceremony, the Stella York gown created a far more timeless and classic bridal silhouette.
The bridal alterations focused on refining the internal structure and balancing the proportions of the gown while maintaining the softness and movement of the satin skirt.

Alterations included:
- bodice restructuring and contour fitting
- waist refinement
- neckline balancing
- satin skirt shaping
- cathedral veil preparation
- precision hemming
- bustle work
- internal corsetry refinements for improved support and shaping
Particular attention was given to the internal structure work, helping support the weight and balance of the satin while maintaining a clean couture silhouette throughout the bodice and waistline.
The finished result felt romantic, elegant and beautifully balanced, allowing the softness of the satin and dramatic veil to become the focal point of the bridal look.
A Full-Circle Bridal Alterations Story
Victoria arrived for her final fitting just five days before the wedding following the initial pinning appointment a month earlier, as the schedule between international travel and two separate celebrations was understandably very tight.
Naturally, she felt nervous leaving the final fitting so close to the wedding day, but I reassured her that the gown would fit beautifully once the final restructuring and finishing work had been completed.

After a final try-on appointment, the Stella York gown was professionally steam pressed and prepared for collection the following day, ready for the wedding weekend.
In a lovely coincidence, Niamh — the previous bride who had originally recommended my bridal alterations services to her — happened to return to the studio that very same day for a bridesmaid dress fitting for herself. They missed seeing each other by half an hour. It felt like such a full-circle moment within the studio, seeing one bride recommending another and both returning again for important occasions.
