Chardonay travelled from Purley for her WED2B bridal alterations to my Sutton Surrey bridal studio wanting to transform the neckline and upper structure of her WED2B wedding dress so she could feel more comfortable and confident on her wedding day
While the original Bardot sleeve design looked beautiful, she felt the neckline revealed more of her bust than she wanted for the wedding day itself. Together, we carefully redesigned the bodice to create a softer, more supportive neckline while preserving the romantic feeling of the original gown.
The final result was a seamless couture transformation that looked as though it had always been part of the dress design.
WED2B bridal alterations Purley | Transforming the Bardot Sleeves Into a Structured Modesty Panel
One of the most significant changes involved converting the original Bardot sleeve design into a supportive modesty panel that blended naturally into the lace bodice.
The challenge with this type of bridal alteration is ensuring the new neckline feels intentional rather than visibly “added on” afterwards. The lace placement, edge shape, and balance across the bustline all needed careful restructuring so the transition appeared completely natural within the original WED2B design.
The neckline was reshaped to soften the exposure across the bust while still maintaining femininity, delicacy, and lightness.
WED2B bridal alterations Purley | Internal Couture Support Using Hand-Inserted Horsehair Crin
During fittings, another technical challenge became apparent.
Because the new modesty panel was created from soft bridal materials, the upper section repeatedly collapsed forward during movement and wear. Rather than compromising the softness of the gown with visible structure, I internally hand-inserted horsehair crin behind the panel to stabilise the neckline invisibly from within.
This couture technique provided hidden support while maintaining the softness and fluidity of the dress externally.
The result was a secure, elegant neckline that remained beautifully in position throughout the wedding day while still appearing light and effortless in photographs.
Preserving Softness, Movement & Romance
One of the loveliest parts of this gown was its movement.
The layered tulle skirt, cathedral-length veil, and soft romantic silhouette photographed beautifully throughout the day, particularly during the outdoor ceremony and portrait photographs. The internal restructuring allowed Chardonay to move naturally and confidently without constantly adjusting the neckline or worrying about support.
The final gown retained all of the romance of the original dress while becoming fully personalised to the bride wearing it.
A Bride Who Wanted To Feel Beautiful & Comfortable
For many brides, bridal alterations are not simply about resizing a dress.
They are about feeling comfortable, secure, elegant, and fully themselves on one of the most important days of their lives. This transformation focused on creating a gown that reflected Chardonay’s comfort and confidence without losing the softness and beauty she originally fell in love with.
Seeing the finished wedding photographs made every hidden stitch worthwhile.
Bride’s Kind Words 🤍
