Bridal Alterations After Significant Weight Loss for a South West London Bride
Stella York Bridal Transformation Morden – this beautiful wedding dress journey involved significant weight-loss alterations, hidden corsetry and extensive bridal restructuring to achieve the perfect fit.

A Wedding Dress Transformation Built Around Fit, Comfort and Confidence
Some bridal alterations are about refining a fit. Others require the gown to be completely re-engineered around the bride.
Rebecca came to my Sutton, Surrey studio after being recommended by her cousin Catherine, whose Martina Liana wedding dress alterations I had done previously in the year. Family recommendations like this are always incredibly special, and since Rebecca’s wedding another cousin has already secured her alterations appointment for a July 2027 wedding.
When Rebecca purchased her wedding dress, she needed a larger size to accommodate her bust. However, during the alterations process she lost approximately two stone, creating a significant fitting challenge. By the time of her later fittings, the waist of the gown was around eight inches too large while the bust measurements remained comparatively similar.
The result was a wedding dress that required extensive restructuring to create the support, balance and silhouette she wanted for her wedding day.
Creating a Sculpted Fit After Weight Loss

Weight loss often affects different areas of the body unevenly, which can make bridal alterations particularly complex.
In Rebecca’s case, the bodice required extensive reshaping to reduce excess volume through the waist while maintaining enough room and support through the bust. Simply taking the gown in at the side seams would not have achieved the secure and balanced fit required. We also took out the extra netting all around the underskirt as she wanted the dress to be less voluminous.
The dress was carefully re-sculpted to follow her new shape while preserving the original design and proportions of the gown.

Stella York Bridal Transformation Morden | Hidden Corsetry and Internal Support
One of the most important aspects of this alteration was ensuring Rebecca felt secure and comfortable throughout the day.
To achieve this, I added a hidden internal bust corset with boning and elastic support. This created additional structure within the gown while remaining completely invisible from the outside.
The goal was not only to create a beautiful silhouette but also to ensure the dress remained comfortable and supportive from the ceremony through to the evening celebrations.

Stella York Bridal Transformation Morden | A Bespoke Adaptation for a Diabetic Glucose Monitor
Every bride is different, and occasionally a wedding dress requires alterations that go far beyond fit adjustments.
Rebecca wears a diabetic glucose monitoring system which needed to remain accessible throughout the wedding day. To accommodate this, I carefully created a concealed opening beneath the gown through the pocket area and internal layers of the dress.
This allowed access to the monitoring device while keeping the alteration completely hidden from view.
These are often the alterations nobody notices, yet they can make an enormous difference to a bride’s comfort and peace of mind.
Stella York Bridal Transformation Morden | Mother of the Bride Alterations
Alongside Rebecca’s wedding dress, I also altered her mother’s heavily embellished Karen Millen occasion gown.
This was a particularly intricate alteration due to the extensive beadwork and embroidered detailing throughout the dress and cape sleeves.
The alterations included shortening the substantial hem, lifting the shoulders to improve the overall fit and proportion, and carefully reconstructing sections of the embroidery so the design flowed seamlessly after the adjustments.
One of the challenges with this style was ensuring undergarments remained completely concealed around the armhole area beneath the cape sleeves. To achieve this, I incorporated specialist lingerie clips within the garment, allowing everything to remain secure and discreet throughout the day.
When working with heavily embellished occasionwear, the alteration itself is often only part of the process. Preserving the original design and beadwork while achieving a flawless fit requires careful planning and many hours of detailed hand finishing.

Stella York Bridal Transformation Morden | Alterations for the Entire Bridal Party
Alongside Rebecca’s wedding dress, I altered her mother’s heavily beaded Karen Millen gown and carried out alterations for three of her bridesmaids. Steam pressed all the outfits as well as her Groom’s suit for the Wedding day.
As a bridal specialist, I often work on multiple garments for the same wedding to ensure every member of the bridal party feels confident and comfortable on the day.
A Lovely Review From Rebecca

Following the wedding, Rebecca left this lovely review:
“Zen did an amazing job with my wedding dress. She did wonders for my curves and I felt so comfortable all day. She altered my mum’s dress perfectly and she also steamed the bridesmaids dresses and my husband’s suit and they looked fabulous. Highly recommend her, thank you!!”
The words “I felt so comfortable all day” mean as much to me as comments about the appearance of the dress. A wedding gown should not only look beautiful; it should allow a bride to relax, enjoy the day and feel completely confident in what she is wearing.
