Martina Liana Bridal Alterations London | Complete Sample Dress Transformation

Martina Liana sample wedding dress after couture bridal alterations and silhouette reconstruction.

Introduction

When Chloe purchased her discontinued Martina Liana 1330 sample wedding dress from The Outlet by Aurora, she fell in love with the delicate beaded embroidered lace, soft romantic details and dramatic low back. As one of The Outlet by Aurora’s recommended seamstresses, I was delighted when they referred Chloe to my Sutton studio to discuss the extensive Martina Liana sample bridal alterations required to transform the gown into her dream dress.

However, the gown she purchased wasn’t quite the dress she ultimately wanted to wear on her wedding day.

The sample dress was significantly oversized on her petite frame and the original silhouette featured a softer, fuller skirt than she had envisioned. Chloe wanted a more sculpted fit-and-flare silhouette that highlighted her figure while preserving the beautiful lace and character of the original design.

This project became far more than a standard wedding dress alteration. It was a complete silhouette transformation involving extensive structural reshaping, couture contouring and reconstruction throughout the gown.

Original Martina Liana 1330 Sample Gown

The original Martina Liana 1330 featured a softer silhouette through the skirt with more fullness and flare than Chloe wanted for her wedding day.

Although the lace and embroidery were beautiful, the proportions overwhelmed her frame and the dress required extensive work to achieve the look she envisioned.

Transforming the Silhouette

The most dramatic alteration involved transforming the entire silhouette of the gown.

The original design featured a softer, more flowing skirt shape. Chloe wanted a slimmer, more sculpted silhouette that followed the contours of her body before gently flaring towards the hem.

Because the gown was substantially oversized, reducing the dress by approximately 4–6 inches alone was not enough to achieve the desired result.

Hidden shaping seams were carefully introduced into the outer layers of the dress to create the contouring required. These structural cut lines were then concealed beneath overlapping embroidered lace appliqués so the reconstruction remained virtually invisible.

The result was a complete silhouette transformation that looked entirely natural and original to the design.

Martina Liana Extensive Sample Dress Alterations

As with many sample wedding dresses, the gown was significantly larger than required.

The dress was reduced by approximately 4–6 inches throughout the bodice, waist and skirt to create balanced proportions for Chloe’s frame.

Large bridal reductions require considerably more than simply taking in side seams. Every adjustment must work with the existing lace pattern, structure and balance of the gown to ensure the finished dress appears untouched.

Martina Liana Sample Bridal Alterations | Neckline Reshaping and Couture Contouring

The original neckline sat away from the body and created visible gaping through the upper bodice.

To achieve a cleaner and more supportive fit, the neckline was reshaped and recontoured to follow Chloe’s figure correctly.

Additional contouring was carried out through both the bust and underbust area to create a smoother silhouette and improve overall support.

These structural refinements often make the greatest difference to how a gown looks in photographs and how a bride feels wearing it throughout the day.

Martina Liana Sample Bridal Alterations | Structural Reconstruction and Zip Replacement

The extensive reduction and reshaping work required further reconstruction throughout the gown.

Following the alterations, the zip was replaced to ensure strength, stability and a clean finish through the back of the dress.

Every adjustment was carefully balanced to preserve the integrity of the original Martina Liana design while achieving a completely personalised fit.

The Wedding Day Transformation

The finished gown looked entirely different from the sample dress Chloe first brought to my studio.

The new silhouette created a more elongated, sculpted shape while allowing the beautiful embroidery and lace to remain the focal point of the design.

A Transformation Even The Boutique Didn’t Recognise

One of my favourite moments came after Chloe’s wedding.

When I later tagged The Outlet by Aurora in the finished wedding photographs, the team didn’t immediately recognise the dress as the same Martina Liana 1330 sample gown.

The silhouette transformation had been so extensive that the finished dress appeared completely different from the original sample.

That perfectly demonstrates the difference between simply altering a wedding dress and truly transforming it.
