Introduction
When this bride chose the Bennet gown by Leah Da Gloria from The Wedding Club in Knightsbridge, she loved its elegant silhouette and couture detailing but envisioned a more personalised look. The centrepiece of her Leah Da Gloria bridal alterations would become a pair of completely bespoke sleeves designed and created specifically for her wedding dress.
Leah Da Gloria gowns are known for their couture construction, luxurious fabrics and modern bridal silhouettes. Altering a gown of this calibre requires careful planning, particularly when introducing new design elements that were never part of the original dress.
A Bespoke Sleeve Transformation
The centrepiece of this Leah Da Gloria bridal transformation was the creation of completely bespoke sleeves designed specifically for the bride.
Rather than adapting an existing pattern, I drafted each sleeve from scratch using traditional pattern-cutting techniques. Working directly from the gown’s armhole measurements, I created a custom sleeve pattern on dot and cross pattern paper to ensure a precise fit and seamless integration with the original dress.
The bride sourced matching fabric through The Wedding Club in Knightsbridge so the sleeves would coordinate perfectly with the original gown. Once the pattern was developed, the sleeves were carefully constructed and fitted before being incorporated into the dress.
The sleeves were constructed as traditional set-in sleeves, requiring precise pattern drafting and careful fitting to integrate seamlessly with the original gown. The Additional ease built into the sleeve head was expertly eased into the sleeve head part of the armhole during construction, creating a beautifully smooth curved sleeve cap while maintaining a close, elegant fit around the underarm and armhole. This couture technique allowed the sleeves to sit naturally on the body, providing comfort, movement and a refined silhouette that appeared entirely original to the Leah Da Gloria design.
To achieve the bride’s vision, I sourced thirty covered buttons, with fifteen individually applied along each sleeve seam. This couture-inspired detail transformed the sleeves into a striking feature of the gown while maintaining the elegance and sophistication of the original Leah Da Gloria design.
Because the gown had not originally been designed with sleeves, the neckline and armhole areas required careful reshaping and refinement to accommodate the new construction. These adjustments ensured the sleeves sat comfortably, moved naturally and appeared as though they had always been part of the dress.

The gown was also carefully shortened to the bride’s required length, ensuring the proportions of the dress remained balanced while preserving the beauty and flow of the original design.
The finished result was a truly bespoke bridal transformation, combining the luxury craftsmanship of Leah Da Gloria with a completely personalised sleeve design created exclusively for the bride.

Following the final fitting, the gown underwent a thorough professional steam press to ensure every layer, seam and detail was presented perfectly. The bride then returned for collection, seeing the completed transformation beautifully pressed, with the bespoke sleeves, covered button detailing and refined silhouette fully finished. She was positively overjoyed with the result.
The finished gown looked as though the sleeves had always been part of the original Leah Da Gloria design. The result was a couture bridal transformation tailored specifically to the bride’s vision and ready for her wedding day..

For the evening celebration, the bride changed into a stunning Berta reception gown, creating two distinct bridal looks for her wedding day. While the Leah Da Gloria Bennet gown showcased timeless couture elegance with its bespoke sleeve transformation, the Berta dress provided a glamorous second look for the evening festivities.
The Berta gown also required specialist bridal alterations to achieve the perfect fit. The dress was taken in by approximately two inches throughout the bodice and silhouette, with careful contouring through the bust area to create a secure, supportive and flattering fit while preserving the original design and heavily embellished detailing.
The gown was also shortened to the bride’s required length, with every alteration completed carefully to maintain the balance, movement and integrity of the design. Working with heavily embellished couture gowns requires meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the finished dress retains the beauty and impact intended by the designer while fitting the bride flawlessly.
