Prowling Tigers Silk Scarf – Hand Painted Silk Sutton Surrey

Prowling Tigers: A Study of Movement on Silk

The “Prowling Tigers” silk scarf is a hand-painted tiger silk scarf created in my Sutton, Surrey studio— capturing movement in its most controlled form.

A tiger does not rush. It prowls. There is intention in every step, a quiet tension held within the body. That sense of restrained power became the foundation of this design.

Rather than placing a single central motif, I chose repetition. Multiple tigers move across the silk, creating rhythm — almost like a continuous story unfolding. As the scarf shifts and drapes, the figures reveal themselves differently, never fixed, never static.

The monochrome palette was essential. By removing colour, the focus falls entirely on line, contrast and flow. The stripes echo both the tiger’s natural markings and the organic movement of silk, allowing the design to feel unified rather than decorative.

Each line was hand-painted, giving the piece a softness that cannot be replicated through print. There are slight variations, subtle irregularities — details that bring life into the design and allow it to move naturally with the fabric.

I am a couture-trained dressmaker specialising in complex bridal alterations, my work extends beyond traditional tailoring into the realm of bespoke craftsmanship. Each gown is approached with a deep understanding of structure, proportion and design, whether reshaping a dress by multiple sizes, reconstructing intricate lace, or creating entirely new elements to transform a silhouette. Working from my Sutton, Surrey studio, I combine technical precision with an intuitive eye for form, ensuring every piece feels as though it was always meant to exist exactly as it does.

Custom Colour Variation

Prowling Tigers – Custom Colour Variation

A bespoke variation of “Prowling Tigers” was developed for a client, introducing warm tones of amber and orange into the design.

This subtle shift enhances the presence of the tigers, bringing a sense of depth and realism while maintaining the rhythm and flow of the original monochrome composition.

The result is a piece that feels both familiar and transformed — a continuation of the same design language, interpreted through a different tonal balance.

This version reflects the flexibility of working with silk as both a material and a canvas — where each piece can be adapted, refined and reinterpreted while still remaining part of the same visual language.

Designed and created in my Sutton, Surrey studio, “Prowling Tigers” reflects my approach to silk as both structure and expression — where pattern, movement and craftsmanship meet. This variation was created as part of an ongoing exploration of custom silk design. This variation is also available to order on Etsy
